Greetings! My name is Diana and I have an interest in old things. I'd love to learn a bit more about stamps because I got a small collection handed to me and I feel it's my obligation to know more about these pieces before deciding their destiny. Perhaps I'll become a collector myself, I do appreciate the artworks and paper quality in some stamps but at the same time it seems to be a delicate hobby. Worked in the IT-sector thus I really value what's considered "real" and I have the utmost respect for peoples "own personal internal databases" Hope this presentation will do. Looking forward to explore these grounds and ends with wishing everyone a nice day!

Hi Diana! placesDelighted to have you join us. This is a great group - the guys are awesome - no “mansplaining” here! Haha! We do it all from scholarly to school house rock level - it’s all good and welcomed. And watch out for some silly humor sometimes. If you want to talk one on one with one of the many gals here, I’m retired and happy to answer questions. Happy stamping! terri in sunny Florida

Welcome to TSF, Diana ( places)! Good to have you with us. I hope that you will be able to learn enough to make up your mind whether to become a collector yourself or not, but I really like your approach in any case, wanting to learn more about what you have rather than just making a decision in haste. Bravo! Enjoy your time with us! -Chris (aka Beryllium Guy)

Hi Diana (places) and welcome!
The wonderful hobby of philately is just what you make of it, there are few hard and fast “rules” ie no “wrong” or “right” way to collect. As long as you have fun! I’m in my 51st year of bring a philatelist (I’m 61 years of age) and every day l learn something new because of the hobby . Many days l don’t seem to have any free time, but my stamps aren’t demanding attention; they wait patiently until l decide it’s time to look at them again, or even just toss them around a bit like a salad😊
Some bits of my world-wide collection haven’t seen daylight in years, yet some pages of my stamp books I turn to and admire way more often than l care to admit. If I feel like I’ve neglected my hobby due to lack of time l pull out an old monthly stamp magazine and reread articles and admire pictures of stamps I’ve seen years before. It keeps me sane, these wanton bits of paper with their historical depth and beauty, an undersized impact on an otherwise less-enjoyable life.
So please ask away, we are a very friendly patient group who’ll answer any question we can about this great hobby!
(Back to work for me, but we all check in often with our many friends here in The Stamp Forum (aka TSF)
