How many times have people brought you their collection and asked if it is worth anything? Yeah - you know what I mean. Over here in the USA you will see a Statesman or Minuteman album with a few USA plate blocks and a bunch of CTOs and badly soaked USA. The usual children’s collection. But then one day someone shows you these ... ( true story - happened to me back in the 1980s) ... yeah I almost fainted! These were just the tip of the iceberg ... plus Zeppelin covers galore! ... and these were just the covers! The stamps? OMG

FYI. I gave this man the names of a few top auction houses. I’m not sure if he consigned it or not because he was transferred to a different location. He came to me for a second opinion - some local physician had offered him $2000 - I told him the collection was worth six figures at least! I’m so glad he didn’t have it stolen from him - it was his father’s collection.

I have only had some relatives discuss collections (more like small accumulations). They only collected them because they thought they may have future value.

The reason I was asked to look at so many collections was because I used to work in a large factory complex with literally thousands of employees. Word got out that I “knew” stamps so everyone and their brother started bringing me their collection to assess. I probably looked at over 100 collections during those years. Remember, the 1980s were the big golden years for stamp values and folks started hunting for their childhood collections to see if they had anything valuable.
There was one other nice accumulation - a group of mostly 1930s Switzerland.

Hey philatelia , can you enlighten me regarding the reason why the scans are so valuable?
