So I took out the small-sized bright blue NVI 2nd Class stamps and started to sort them.
Numbers Type 247 syncopated perfs off paper 54 syncopated on paper (presumably self-adhesives) 98 perfed all around (non-syncopated) 37 Top straight edge 50 Bottom straight edge 1 Bottom and right straight edge --------------------------------------------------------------- 487 in total!
I pulled out my Stoneham to see just how many varieties they list. I gave up at 50! 50???
I don't have any with security features.
I think I will collect a basic set of these that Adminware has put out, which has 27 pages. His next bump up is 246 pages, then 509 for the complete collection! 509 pages for one definitive issue! The denominated set from Album Easy web site is 97 pages long, but even that looks too much for me.
Maybe the Machin bug will attack me & I'll get deeper into this series. I'll see. But >50 varieties of a small blue 2nd class stamp? Sheesh, 1 is good enough for me!

No, but don't bother. I'm just going to collect a basic set of these. 50 varieties of one stamp is overkill for me! One or two should suffice

Lots of work for sure. I have all 3 sets of pages from Adminware (basic. Intermediate and Specialized). The specialized pages are an interesting reference for differences. However, SG often uses shades as a differentiator (often from special booklets) so Adminware's are missing a few listed in SG. Many are from sheets, coils, booklets, and printers so lots of possible varieties. The security ones get into date and source codes and other variations (gummed, self-adh, litho, gravure, printer). I just finished sorting all my security ones from a collection and then creating a checklist. If you are looking for a simple list of collectible varieties. this dealer price list is very handy. I imported some of the information to kicks tart my checklist. www.john-rice-stamps.co.uk/assets/pdf/Machin%20list%20%206th%20February%202020.pdf

Thanks for that link, angore. That's quite the extensive list he has for sale. To get them all just ain't in my budget! I think too, that I'll have to get a Stanley Gibbons catalogue. Stoneham looks good, but everyone uses SG numbers!

Stoneham looks good, but everyone uses SG numbers! Hi, brightonpete, As u say the SG numbers are widely used. I use the SG Concise & Stoneham. Getting all the variations is a mammoth task. It would be great if all the big dealers co-ordinated their cat numbers but that will never happen. I've added a link to the Connoisseur Catalogue page where PDF's can be downloaded (for free at the moment). Very comprehensive, still in the process of being completed. Hope it may be useful. www.connoisseurcatalogue.net/catalogue.htm

Thanks Dr. Who... er I mean Blade! (drblade )
I've seen that page - just so much in there. 1,000's of different stamps for one definitive series. It will be nice to see a new set one of these days!
Thanks for tweaking my mind to that!

The Connoisseur Catalogue is very nice but organized by printer so as a locator is not as helpful. My ideal guide lets you answer back questions and work your way down.

I agree with you with the cc "organization by printer" is the weak point as a locator. I was discussing this only yesterday with my partner. I still think the Deegam system is way out in front of the rest, very technical though, but then again it's a matter of personal choice i suppose. www.deegam.com/
