I am looking for a handbook or guidebook or introduction to German philately, to guide me through the empires, republics, states, colonies, occupations, etc. Anyone know of a book like that?
There are all kinds of web pages with this information, but I would rather have an organized book. Thanks.

Hi, Ron ( ronbreznay ): There are several Germany collectors on TSF. As Jerry B mentioned, jimwentzell is one, but also mikeclevenger , hrdoktorx , PostmasterGS , tobben63 , blaamand , and others. I have tagged those I could think of in the hopes of getting you some additional responses. And I forgot to mention that salentin is German and lives in Germany now, so he may be able to help, too. Good Luck! -Chris

ronbreznay, I don't think I've ever seen an intro to German philately book, at least in English. I know you didn't want websites, but this Wikipedia page has a good, brief overview. And, you're always welcome to send me any questions you might have.

You mean to tell me I have been translating to English for no reason. I feel like an idiot today.

I am looking for a handbook or guidebook or introduction to German philately, to guide me through the empires, republics, states, colonies, occupations, etc. Anyone know of a book like that? True, it's a weakness/curiosity/gap in the English literature. Virtually every other European country is covered better. It's too short, but I like Darryl Hintonblaker's Germany 1872-1900: A Philatelic & Postal History Handbook of Germany & Her Colonies. It's on Amazon if you don't mind list price. For years the author was selling it on Ebay for whatever.
