What I collect: Used only - Australia, Great Britain, Canada, Ireland, Western Europe, and Scandinavia, from 1900 to date. That keeps me busy. To be honest I am trying to avoid becoming a WW collector.

As requested I am introducing myself - so here goes…I am a returning collector after a break of 25 years. I was gifted an accumulation used WW stamps (8 large plastic crates worth - all off paper) from a deceased family member. Two years ago now year I started to sort them. I went online to do more research, and in doing so I remembered how much fun stamps could be and how relaxing the hobby was. So I thought I would sort out this accumulation first, get things in order a bit, and then decide what I wanted to collect. At the moment I am still enjoying doing that. I collected as a child. My mother collected stamps - British Commonwealth - she ran the school stamp club when I was kid. Later on she was very active with stamps and at local stamp club ran the approval books. I also collected as an adult but life got busy and I simply did not have time to be a working mother and pay attention to the collection. Since I was last an active collector the internet has happened! I see people are very involved as the internet has allowed people to communicate easily about their interests. When I was active most people specialised in one country but I notice there are many more topical and WW collectors. I am interested in Used stamps and am starting to shape my new found collecting interests. I will collect Australia because I live here. At the moment apart from the ‘Grand Sort’ I focused on Australia and then tackled GB, New Zealand and some European countries. I have purchased more stock books but I have a hunch my interests will settle on a couple of groups of countries such as used Scandinavia or Western Europe. Since I am not rich so I will start the collection at 1900 and keep the option open to stop at 2000 - so effectively the 20th century. Anyway that is the state of play at the moment - getting things into stock books with the aim of narrowing down and mounting in albums. Along the way I have had lots of fun and enjoying my return to stamp collecting. I live in Australia

Hello, Sharon ( sharonb), and welcome to TSF! Glad to have you with us. Your story of collecting in youth, taking a break for years due to intervening life priorities and then returning to collecting later, is a familiar one, for myself included! I am a US expatriate living abroad the last 2 years, first in France for 18 months and now in the UK for the past few. My normal US home would be Southern California. I have travelled to Australia several times in my life, and I have really liked it there. I was especially fond of Tasmania and Melbourne, but also spent a lot of my early days there in the West, mostly centered around Fremantle and Perth. Are you willing to say which part of Australia you are from? Just curious! Please enjoy your time with us, Sharon, and thanks for a nice intro post. See you around the boards, -Chris (aka Beryllium Guy)

I was a Freo girl (mmm that sounds wrong - since Fremantle is a port...) no seriously I now live in Canberra but moved here from Fremantle about 30 years agao as my husbands job took us across the country. Thnks for the greeting

Welcome sharonb. I'm new too. My collection started because I thought collecting stamps would take up less space than the book collecting I did for years. Actually, stamp collecting takes up a lot of space as well. lol! Good luck sorting.
