The hobby has the reputation of being primarily that of white-haired older men and although for anyone that has been to a stamp show or club meeting recently, this may be true; however, there are role models that can be highlighted that have enjoyed our hobby that are well known or even famous.
This thread is to highlight and showcase some of those individuals e.g. John Lennon, Freddie Mercury or even Presidents like Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR). At the same time, the business world has had its share of notables as well including Warren Buffet or Eli Broad as shared in this article from Christie's auction house, ‘ Medicis of Los Angeles’
The Broad Museum, Los Angeles CA, USA
‘Life is richer when you live it among the dreamers’ - Eli Broad
Happy collecting!

Hi staley64: Good idea for a thread. I'm not sure if this contribution to it is what you had in mind, but I'll give a shot.
For me, Ralph Kimble of Chicago, Illinois, is one of the personalities who enriched the hobby during his lifetime. He was a high profile figure in philately during the 1920s, '30s, and into the 1940s. Kimble wrote extensively about stamp collecting and many of his books are still sold on eBay and in used book stores. He was active as the host on a stamp-related radio program out of Chicago and wrote columns for newspapers of the day. Kimble was also editor of the American Philatelic Society Journal and was ultimately elected to the APS hall of fame for his contributions to philately.
Below is a 1932 cover commemorating a speaking engagement at Ripon, Wisconsin, which many consider as the birthplace of the Republican Party and hence the reference in the address of the cover. Below it, is a brochure announcing some of Kimble's writings.

Don StampHinger I about fell out of my chair when you suggested Ralph Kimble. It turns out his son Dan Kimble lives in my town and we are both good friends and good philatelic friends. Dan supplied the stamps with legible post dates from his father's collection that was featured in Kimble"s Postmark Calendar.. a stamp with a date for every day of the year... bigblue1840-1940.blogspot.com/2017/01/kimbles-january-postmark-calendar-and.htmlJim Jackson bigblue1840-1940.blogspot.com

Great additions so far, but it is not just men that collect, women do as well.
One of the those women that collect postage stamps and needs no introduction is of course Queen Elizabeth II, who continues to build on the Royal Philatelic Collection,
QE II Cameo with 'G' Overprint (Scott No.O48)
For those interested, a newspaper story of her recently opening the new headquarters of the Royal Philatelic Society can be found here...
Happy collecting!
PS. It is rumoured that she helped the aspiring collector, former French president Nicolas Sarkozy, by gifting him a few of her duplicates ;-)

Hi Stanley64:
I found this blurb in one of the Ralph Kimble collateral items. I never heard of her, but it appears that Italy's queen during the 1920s/30s was a patron of stamp exhibitions and a collector of sorts. The stamp periodicals of the 1920s so list her. Unfortunately, I can't reproduce the news items that confirm her participation.

What I do not know though is, whether he or any of "The Fab Four" every appeared on a postage stamp?
I do not recall seeing one, but am sure they have to exist...
Happy collecting!

Hi stanley64:
Several countries have John Lennon and the Beatles on stamps. Here is the U.S. offering from the USPS online order site:
