Does this sound like a good idea for a forum contest / giveaway?
Everyone who enters must list five or more areas that they are seeking and try to include a wide range of interests that are affordable. No high end specialty items allowed.
One name will be drawn from the entries -
The winner will receive a letter from every person who entered with a few stamps from the winner’s area of interest or wishlists (if possible) and a few stamps on the cover. If you don’t have any from their wishes, you could send a few recent stamps for postage or something like that. Or maybe extra mounts if they use them. Or maybe just a surprise, something fun. But, nothing too expensive, it’s the thought that counts.
Everyone includes a specific inexpensive item that they have been looking for with their wishes and everyone promises to check their duplicates to try to help find that elusive stamp if they are the winner.
The following month another name will be drawn from the list. The previous month’s winner will not be eligible to win again. The monthly event could continue until everyone has a chance to be the “winner.” A new contest could begin after everyone has a chance. The last month could be a double to wrap it up sooner.
We could take suggestions for a name for the event.
Anyways, let me know if this sounds like fun or if it is probably not a great idea in your opinion.

Thanks for starting this thread and sharing your idea, Terri ( philatelia)! Personally, I like the idea, and would be more than happy to participate. I understand the possible delay in actually being able to send things due to the current situation, but I would be willing to support it when everyone can participate. Nice one! -Chris

Definitely agree that we should save this until things are back to normal with the postal services and life in general.
Any suggestions or tweaks to the basic concept?

I think this could be fun. As others have stated, waiting until postal systems are back to normal would be a good idea.
will give time to add anything to the idea.

Definitely agree that we should save this until things are back to normal with the postal services and life in general. Any suggestions or tweaks to the basic concept? Terri, I have re-read your original post a couple of times, and it seems pretty clear to me. Nothing is occurring to me at the moment as a tweak to the idea, but I suspect that once we try it out, we will be able to see better how it works, and then, if tweaks are needed, they will probably become apparent. I like the idea more and more, as everyone will eventually get to be a winner, and the overall idea is to make it a group effort to help each other out. Since I have come to the UK, thanks to the local monthly stamp auctions, I now have access to more material than I ever did before, so something like this will be perfect for me. Also, in line with the other recent thread about favorite long/definitive sets, I have been putting together some sets from these big mixtures that I have, and there are plenty of holes that need filling. So, I can already start to work on my list of affordable stamps that I am looking for. I give you full credit for a very nice idea! My only frustration is that we cannot fully implement right now due to the global circumstances. Do you think it would be better to start sooner rather than later and get participants lined up now, having everyone create their want lists of affordable items and post them in a thread? Or should we wait to even start until the world situation has begun to normalize? I can see it from both perspectives, so just asking the question. For a name, how about: All-for-One-and-One-for-All Giveaway? It would seem to capture the idea, but maybe too wordy? Thoughts?

It's only a question but recently having a 'Birthday Club' was mentioned on one of the threads (cannot find it) and that idea and the one put forward by philatelia are similar. It really depends on how many are interested in such an idea. If there were 20-25 participants for example and the stamps were sent out once a month (as was mentioned) then it could be that some would not get their lot for 2 years or more. Just thinking aloud, don't mind me !!

Hey, I like the idea. We play the "Birthday Game" at work. We don't ever make money on it, but on your birthday week, everyone gives you $20. There were actually pretty much 1 -2 birthdays a month, so it wasn't too bad. But, on my birthday week, I got about $240. It just makes you birthday week special, because you get extra money to buy yourself something.
I would be in on whatever everyone decides.
Have a great day. Mike.

I like it , and actually any idea that keeps people engaged on the forum and with each other.
Next to my wife, and work, this is my next "platform" where I actually engage with other people. With all that is going on, gone is the casual banter at the bank, store, hardware, etc. This forum is truly a social outlet!
and who here doesn't like to give and receive stamps!!

Just thinking aloud, don't mind me !! It's a fair point, Michael. Waiting 2 years to get something back might be too long to hold someone's interest. So, if we get a big group, say 20-25 members, couldn't we just have a drawing to divide them into 3 groups of 7-8 people? Then we could just run the groups in parallel. Would that work?

I love the idea of this - just worried if I can participate well as I don't really have many swaps compared to the rest of you... Or to be clear - I haven't finished cataloging a bunch of books and loose sheets of stamps so I have little clue what I have.

Or to be clear - I haven't finished cataloging a bunch of books and loose sheets of stamps so I have little clue what I have. I didn't think I had any extras, especially in areas that I don't collect. Then I remembered that I have a bunch of old albums I bought in lots, at auctions on line. I found out that I had about 10 old worldwide albums with plenty of stamps in them. Plus, I have thousands of extra US stamps, and God knows I have 10,000 plus extra Germany stamps now, including so me good ones. LOL. You just make it the best that you can. It's more about the interaction between us stamp collectors, sharing what we have, our knowledge, and friendship with each other.

Most of my extra's that I don't want are being donated to the Holocaust Project.
But with the way I buy, I'll more than likely get more duplicates!
