I know this is an often asked question and I thought we had a thread for this here but I could not find one. Should I find one I will add my images there. So what do you do ? I am finding more and more that covers get markers or nothing at all. Both are equally annoying.........or are they ? I have just added a couple of recent mailings to the 'Marker Monkeys' thread. But what do I do with these below ? Sell them ? Soak them ? Sell them as a Post Office blunder ? Give them to a new collector who doesn't know the difference ? After all these years I still get annoyed and upset by this vandalism. Yes, I call it vandalism because that's what it is to me, a Stamp Collector who gives good money to the worlds Postal services and expects and wants just a simple cancel. What do YOU do ? I have loads more, scattered around in boxes and envelopes feeling totally unwanted. How can I make them feel wanted again ? (Many times I have scanned the cover and sent it to the relevant Postal service but have NEVER had even one reply. To them, I am nothing. Mostly I like doing it to Royal Mail who must hate me immensely) Londonbus1

Londonbus1 , Even though I prefer that my my used stamps are cancelled, I personally don’t mind uncancelled stamps. It’s the marker monkey stamps that I can’t tolerate. While I remove all uncancelled stamps from the envelope and save them, the marker monkey stamps immediately go into the trash.

Oh man, you all are killing me. I would probably not save US stamps cancelled that way, as they are readily available to me. But Canada and UK stamps are a different matter. Please don’t toss them in the trash! Send them to me! I can’t get them easily anyway, so a marker cancel us better than nothing!

I no longer collect U.S. stamps, so, if the stamps are out of period usage and on an eBay sellers cover, I clip them and put them in a gallon bag and, when full, put the bag aside for a local stamp club's auction. If the cover is from a bona fide stamp dealer, I might keep the cover intact and add it to my Stamp Dealers cover collection. Have I ever soaked uncanceled stamps off and reused them? Hmmm, isn't that against the law? Naw, well, ah, maybe, just one or two.

I just put uncancelled stamps in box with some mythical goal that I will soak them.
In the above, the intact Machin booklet panes look interesting since Machins can be identified by source.

I also put all uncancelled stamps in a box with the intention of giving them away one day.I have been checking and more than 75 percent of mail from the UK with stamps attached is uncancelled. All letters are also registered so I do not understand why they are not cancelled at the post office when they are sent. When I lived there,I often sent registered letters to the USA and the postal clerk always hand stamped the letter.Maybe Royal Mail has changed their policies.Strangely enough, all letters which had those awful Horizon labels received cancellations. Most mail I receive from other countries is usually cancelled.Mail from France seems to be the best for cancellations. In another thread, someone suggested a sticker asking for cancellations as it was philatelic mail. This is a good idea but could have adverse effcts, depending on the postal employees concerned.Back in my younger days,I worked for Royal Mail during the Xmas holidays at the main sorting office in Birmingham. A sorter saw an envelope with PHOTOS DO NOT BEND written on the front. He picked it up,said Oh yes they do...and proceeded to fold it and put it in the delivery sack.......

Is there an emoticon that combines "only kidding," "ducking and running, " "fwiw," etc., etc., etc.? How about making your own rubber stamp cancel for reception of uncanceled stamps? Someday, there may be a collectible market for the recv'd cancel by stamphinger, Londonbus1, daveg28, anglobob, and angore !
