Thanks, philatelia and cursus for your messages. My background is in history so I know a little about these areas (especially the rivalry between the Obrenović and the Karadjordje families). Fascinating history and some interesting stamps. I haven't been to Catalonia, mostly Andalusia - I was in Benalmadena in March, now just a distant memory, but I live, in isolation, near Cramond.

bushk2 , That’s a fascinating area to study both philatelically (is that a word?) and historically. My husband’s family lived in what is now Serbia near the Hungarian border. However, his father, grandfather and great grandfather were all born in the same bed in the same room, but they were all born in different countries because the borders kept shifting along with the politics! i don’t collect those countries, but I do collect the Austro-Hungarian issues some of which I believe were valid postage in that “bedroom” and town for a while.

Welcome I ended my collecting of some 30 countries at 1940-50 if war issues were involved 40 years ago you could still find many "classics" at good prices particularly if you traveled to those countries or joined exchange groups The good old ones are now a real $$ issue for new collectors and most 1850-1920 issues are forgery minefields - so another philatelic knowledge requirement I personally have no liking for the mass produced 1980 on If I was collecting today I might consider a Thematic - lots of Dino, flower, lighthouse out there and new ones all the time Or a country that prints very nice quality informational stamps (not Disney or super heroes) I think a country like Guyana is a good example and not all overpriced CTO's There are lots of good "collection" buys on places like Hipstamp or Old Bid and even less frequented auctions - Stamp Auction Networks hooks you up to most of them Anyway lots of choices Another suggestion I might offer is not to rush too much to get pre printed albums or pre-made sheets - maybe just use stockbooks until you decide what is best

Early on my intention was to concentrate on Serbia pre-Yugoslavia, but I find I've been pulled into Montenegro and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Not that I'm complaining - it's amazing what can be picked up quite cheaply on eBay and Catawiki. Great stamps, but you have to check the various perforations of the same stamps.

Welcome back to the hobby bushk2. My take on this is simple; Does it get your attention and interest? Do you want to share something with others? If you answer is yes to either of these two questions, you want to go on with this fabulons hobby! FDI

<ya-tr-span data-index="67-0" data-value="After considering all the options, I think that I will concentrate on the countries that made up Yugoslavia after the First World War - on the basis that these countries stopped issuing stamps with the formation of Yugoslavia.
