Hello, I'm going to look for info in my books but I doubt I will find any. What I found concerning the Semeuse is mostly unreferenced, well I think. It must be said that donuts are random and not a variety of boxes.

Hi racatrien Donuts are some times random and not random... Below are a couple of separate Scott 657 "Diver" stamps. Look at these..Both have the exact same donut in the exact same place. makes you think... Robert
Here is a donut explanation of donuts from Adminware.ca

I found some infos in a Ceres 2006 catalog. Look at the 715l for your 3 francs sepia. I enclose a photo of the referenced varieties.

It must be said that donuts are random and not a variety of boxes. Take a look at Spink/Maury 2022 and the previous 2017 - lots of "donuts" or anneau-de-lune in their varieties !! René

My most recent copy of Ceres is 1984 and it does not have quite that much detail- I may have to seek something more recent biglavalamp your French will improve dramatically! Do not be frustrated if a number of translations don't quite seem to make sense an example is Raccord which google translate to connection ... but to or with what?

racatrien can you scan the cover of your Ceres - I'm not finding anything used that's close to being as current as your 2006 If my newest Y&T would ever arrive, maybe it offers some additional details over previous issues

stainlessb is there a web site with these marianne differences biglavalamp, the link below takes you to the start of the Marianne de Gandon listings at the website, Groupement Philatélique France Scandinavie (GPFS). You can click on the individual stamp images and it will list minor number varieties for the various denominations. It is all in French and I have never read enough on the site to know what catalogue numbers it is based on...it might very well be it's own system. You should be able to copy and paste the text into google translate and get a translation into English. GPFS-France-Series FR294

Stan, all these lists a,b,c, etc for an issued FRANCE stamp is a little overboard if you pardon my "french" - I think some people like it very complicated and even if I was raised and trained (University) in "french"....well.........but not in FRANCE

René I fell overboard years ago! darkormex and biglavalamp - the numbering appears to maybe be of their own design (?), nothing I have seen All the stamps are 294A_ B_, etc., as if each definitive series only has one main master number for the year issued (these are all the 1946 issues) Scott has the lowest catalogue number for this series starting at 535

Stainlessb I am attempting to collect the Etoiles de Paris cancellations ( or as Google translate states ...... Stars of Paris cancellations) and used the website etoiles.e-timbres.net/ as a guide. Google translate only partially translates the web pages which have more than enough information required. This prompted me as a mental exercise mon amie to use Duolingo website to attempt to learn conversational French,so far I can only confidently order a coffee at the train station and ask for directions to the toilette, not much use so far in philately but as you quite rightly say my philatelic French has dramatically improved.

I received the 2003* Ceres today and it does appear to contain the same information that racatrien showed above! *listed a 2004, but it is in excellent condition so i will not complain! I am however in need of more book shelves! I see a winter room remodel in my future! I have thinking about ordering matte black plastic laminate kitchen counters (no front lip or back splash} less glare from high spectrum LED lighting (I hope)

At the bottom of each Marianne de Gandon stamp is the name of the designer (Gandon) and the engraver (Cortot); my question is, what is printed after Gandon (looks like 'Del') and after Cortot (looks like 'Sc' or S5') and what do they mean? Thanks for any response(s). Sid

These are abbreviations for Latin words which are commonly used in printmaking and, by extension, on stamps. "Del." is the abbreviation for delineavit, which means "he / she drew it" - it's used as the credit for the designer of the stamp. "Sc." is the abbreviation for sculpsit, which means "he / she carved it" - that one is used as the credit for the engraver of the stamp. www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/delineavitwww.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/sculpsitRyan
