1910 5/- crimson and yellow-green, long gash headplate. Showing full printer’s mark upper left. CTO. SG 160a
At the end of BSAC operation in 1925, large quantities of surplus stamps were in the London Office. Attempts were made to sell these, but stocks were finally cancelled with specially prepared devices. These differed from the normal and Gwelo D.C. or closed arcs from Bulawayo and Salisbury were usually applied, often in the centre of four stamps. Some values had few remainders and C.T.O.'s on these are scarce to very rare.

THE "SHORT GASH" PLATE The "Short Gash" printings include the sixth, seventh & eighth states of the 5555 plate in a different arrangement from that of Zaayer in 1979, who had called two of the printings "Hook". The "gash" in the Queen's Ear now marginally shorter than the mid-gash. So-called "medal marks" are found on some positions, consisting of short horizontal lines above the King's Head and below the medals. Deep Rose-red and Dull Yellow-green perf 14x14 "Short Gash 1" position 36

Received in todays mail, I think this issue is excellent. And I blame clivel for my renewed interest in this area.
