Kenya & Uganda, Sc 18-34 King George V Era Arranged on Hagner Stock SheetThis set of stamps was issued during the relatively brief period between the entities of East Africa & Uganda Protectorates and Kenya, Uganda & Tanganyika. The Scott Catalogue notes it from 1922-1927, but then shows a major gap until the next issue for the colony, which is the KGV Silver Jubilee set in 1935. This is a remarkable set for another reason, which is that it has more high denomination stamps than any other regular postage stamp set that I can recall, from £1 all the way up to the startling value of £100. I will never have many of those highest values, but perhaps, with a little luck, I may be able to find some of the £-values with revenue cancels, which makes them much more affordable than either unused or postally used copies. I also have some colour varieties and interesting postmarks on stamps from this set, and I will post those in near future. Any other members with stamps issued during this period are welcome to post images! Row 1: K-U-T, Sc 18-22: KGV definitive stamps Row 2: K-U-T, Sc 23-28: KGV definitive stamps Row 3: K-U-T, Sc 29-30, 34: KGV definitive stamps (Missing Sc 31-33, 35-41F)

Here is a recent acquisition for my KGV Kenya & Uganda definitive set, which I bought as an unsold lot after the end of an auction. This particular copy has been identified by the auction house as a less-common color variety of this stamp, which is an excellent way to disguise the fact that I probably overpaid for it. The more common variety is described as "gray black" in Scott and "brownish grey" in Gibbons, but this copy has been described as "jet-black", a color variety found in the Gibbons Catalogue, but not in Scott. Personally, I don't think that either catalogue describes this stamp very accurately. I would describe it as as dark gray-olive vignette (KGV portrait) and charcoal gray frame. It is clearly a two-color stamp, but that is not even mentioned in either catalogue.Edit: Many thanks to Jon ( blaamand ) for pointing out the footnote in the Gibbons Catalogue that mentions that these stamps were printed in a two-step process, sometimes resulting in color differences between the frame and the vignette. I had completely overlooked it. Please see next post for the excerpt of that listing. Thanks again, Jon! However you describe the color(s), it's still a nice stamp! K-U-T, Sc 32, 3-shilling gray black KGV definitive stamp K-U-T, SG 90a, 3-shilling jet-black colour variety (compared to SG 90, brownish grey)

Jon ( blaamand), many thanks for your post. I missed that note at the bottom of the listing; thanks for pointing that out. I guess I must have stopped reading somewhere just after I got to the part where the £10 denomination stamp has an unused catalogue value of £12,000....

Kenya & Uganda, Sc 18-41 King George V Era Arranged on Hagner Stock SheetThanks to some nice Christmas gifts from family and friends, I was able to add to my KGV Kenya & Uganda definitive set. Now that the lower denominations in the set are in pretty good shape, the challenge will be to start filling in the higher values, as I am still missing a 2sh50, 4sh, and 10sh. But I was very pleased to get both the £1 and £5 with revenue cancels, which is the most affordable way to add those to the set, which is fine with me. I think that this is a really attractive set both in terms of design and colors, and I am looking forward to filling it out further, although I accept that the £5 value may be the highest one I am able to find, but we shall see! Row 1: K-U-T, Sc18-22: KGV definitive stamps Row 2: K-U-T, Sc23-28: KGV definitive stamps Row 3: K-U-T, Sc29-30, 32: KGV definitive stamps (Missing Sc31 [2sh50] & Sc33 [4sh]) Row 4: K-U-T, Sc34-35: KGV definitive stamps (Missing Sc36 [10sh]) Row 5: K-U-T, Sc37, Sc41: KGV definitive stamps with revenue cancels (Missing Sc38-40 & Sc41A-41F)

I have added two since the last time I posted these, and now I just need the 10-shilling value to have complete up to £1, which will be nice. Kenya & Uganda, Sc18-41 King George V Era Arranged on Hagner Stock SheetWell, I am still hoping that you haven't all tired of seeing this set from me, as I just remembered today that I never posted this update with acquisitions made while still in the UK, notably another color variety of the 3-Shilling and a 10-Shilling, which now makes the set complete up to the £1. I am still looking for fiscally used examples of the other high values. Row 1: K-U-T, Sc18-22: KGV definitive stamps Row 2: K-U-T, Sc23-28: KGV definitive stamps Row 3: K-U-T, Sc29-31: KGV definitive stamps Row 4: K-U-T, Sc32 & SG90a: KGV definitive stamps (Sc32 with revenue cancel) Row 5: K-U-T, Sc33-36: KGV definitive stamps (Sc36 with revenue cancel) Row 6: K-U-T, Sc37, Sc41: KGV definitive stamps with revenue cancels (Missing Sc38-40 & Sc41A-41F)
