JUST FOR FUN ... If you had unlimited money and access, what is the first stamp or philatelic item you would buy?
My first choice? Those Bermuda Perot postmaster provisionals, on cover of course- drool! 😉

My price may not be quite as high , but as there are fewer than a dozen known and none currently available on the market , as I can only gradually collect occasional single stamps , I need any of the known Samoa Express stamps on piece or on cover.I guess I can only dream . Est $20,000 realised $55,000

I guess I had my "dream-fix" lately, buying a Canada 1 but it would be nice to have a Map Stamp on cover, date of issue !! Now I am buying Ivory Coast (does not answer the question) I have others in mind but let's not go into that.........

Technically, I already have this stamp. But the first stamp I would buy is a full mint sheet of the first orange stamp I got from my Mom: It's basically minimum catalog value. But like I mentioned before, I'm a sucker for nostalgia. Sometimes, the value is in the memory, not the catalog price. Of course, you did say unlimited money/access, so after that, I would get a few other "items"...

Poland, 1919. 10 Kr Cracow issue... This!
The overprint in the picture is original... unfortunately, not in my hands... Sold for $22.000 in 1918... BTW! This is the variety "POEZTA", for the printing error in the C of POCZTA. By my side, i would be more than happy even with a normal 10Kr...

Forget all the modern Cinderellas ,........that Lady McLeod is what I call a real Scottish Local . Well I was kind of making a joke there Malam, oldpapercollectThe stamp is regarded as a Local issue as it was used only within Trinidad , but the ship was built in Glasgow Scotland , captain David Bryce was a Scotsman , and the Mc Leods are a famous Scottish clan based in the Isle of Skye. that’s enough Scottish connection for me to call it a “real Scottish local” 😀😀😀😀😀

As for stamps, I would like a VFU copy of the UK QV 5 Pounds, a VFU Black GV UPU Pound or a certified set of the first two Switzerland airmail stamps. But, I'm afraid, I would have a better time by using the money to buy a nice cinderella collection of my choice.

I would want to collect something to completion. I would like to build a collection for a single country with a conservative stamp issuance policy that I know I could complete. I could also build a collection around a dead country or a topical area and build to the point where I have most philatelic material associated with that topic. Another alternative would be to build a collection around a particular definitive series including on cover usages of all stamps in the series, first day covers, stamps, souv. sheets, etc..

I was about 6 years old but I remember him. Hence a black man with blue eyes. That's me!

I would go for certified copies of the 1847 1 and 2 Reales Pacific Steam Navigation stamps as I love the design and the great story behind them. The nearest I have are the printings from 1863, ordered by the PSNC but not for postal use.

Some years ago I won an auction from Fusco's of Ohio and got like 12 sheets of these. I started selling them on eBay and did quite well until eBay stopped me stating that the backs should say fake/faux/facsimile either printed or manuscript text. Made me go hmmmmm.

So obvious from the date 1948 they could not be originals but Such is eBay’s ruling, most of the time ignored. I can only guess some one had complained to draw it to their attention, either from jealousy , spite or plain self righteousness.
Look at any listing of my favourite Samoa Express. 99.9% will be reprints or forgeries, so rarely do the real McCoy turn up. Many sellers will state “reprint” in the description , but at least half will not mention it and the forgeries and fake cancels are never mentioned. Flying a kite for the unwary , or just plain don’t know? eBay lets them go
I suppose it is possible some one could cut up one of your sheets Malam, and sell singles , or try to sell singles as if they were real , but it would be unlikely to fool the dedicated collector of Switzerland.

Fun topic! I would probably buy 100 box lots to fill my days with stamping happiness. I also have always wanted Canada #1 - I'm missing very few from Canada and the range of #1-20 is my greatest void.

What fun and today my fantasy purchase would be this, a Penny Black, Plate V, block of four with perfect margins,
Just wonderful... and although every investment has its risks, depending on you or your heirs financial timeframe, this block may represent the kind of item that would be akin or relevant for this thread - A good time to invest in collectibles?
Happy collecting!
