Hi Team Just a brief note to introduce myself. I live in Tauranga, New Zealand. I have been collecting stamps since about the age of 5 - so @54yrs - although more seriously since my 30's. My main focus is on classic NZ - Chalons in particular - but also the Sidefaces / Pictorials / Universals etc etc - and also closed Post Offices. I also collect, but don't spend so much money on, the former British Empire pre QE2. I have ok collections of Tasmania, COGH and GB and have been trying to get my Canada moving along a bit too. (Sorry but my US is negligble - although I love anything that is pre-1900). I am also keen to learn more about my specialist subjects, but, also looking forward to helping others where I am able to. I note a few other members here from other boards and trust that we are all going to enjoy our time together. Cheers Dave

Yes. I love my Classic Victorian stamps. A link to the past. A time when things were less complicated :-) There will be a few others coming along shortly too, who also enjoy the Chalons. Look out for them.
Looking forward to an enjoyable stay here.

Hey, thanks guys (Rex, LondonBus1 & Cursus) for the warm welcome
Yes, plenty of Chalon Heads to show and share. New members Jimbabwe and hopefully shortly 'GC' will also be having considerable input in the Chalon thread that has been started. More will be done on that over the coming days/weeks/months.
I am also keen to show & share, and talk about, other Br. Empire countries so look forward to contributing in other areas as well.
Cheers all
Dave

hrdoktorx, cjoprey, angore, tomiseksj, darkormex & dorincard for the greetings Yes, I fully intend to read thru' this site as fully as I can and input where I can. From experience I think that I shall steer well clear of politics and religion and try very hard to stick to the pertinent subject here - stamps! My main focus is on the classic period of Empire but do collect modern NZ if it comes my way. I have just recently added a sideline of Alternative (Private) Mail Providers and I am also trying to put together a Modern Commercial Usage lot of NZ too. (Have learnt not to snip stamps off of envelopes as was the norm to do years ago). Have a great day Dave PS Anything from Chatham Island is worth hanging on to. It is a very remote little part of NZ that doesnt get very much attention at all. Early stuff from there is very desirable

Yes I agree - diversity is the key. We ALL learn new things through that - open minds and knowledge sharing will stand us all in good stead.
I have lots of stuff lying around the place that I don't actually collect so may well offer 'gratis' to members as we go along this journey together.
Stay well
Dave

Thanks Terri for those links. I have been having a wee wander around over the past 24hrs since joining but have not as yet seen those ones. I shall take a look in soon.
NB Lucky you finding a 'Captain Jack' in kiloware. Always nice to find little 'treasures' amongst the masses! Well done.

Hey Blaamand
Thanks for those kind words. Yes, I guess we are pretty much polar opposites. Quite literally!
I think that our two countries share a bit in common scenery wise, particularly with the mountains and fiords etc
I bought a small Norway collection about 30 years ago now. I still have it here somewhere although I havent really done anything with it. Perhaps we can discuss that on a Norway thread sometime. In the meantime I see that you have a question pending on the NZ Chalons thread so will go and answer that right now.
Cheers Dave

You're quite right Dave - Norway and NZ do have a lot of nature and scenery in common. NZ has always been a place I've wanted to go to - but it's just such a long travel! It's much easier to travel by philately Stamp-wise we do not have that much in common at all. Honestly I am not too keen on Norwegian stamps - I am concerned about diving into the abyss of the zillions of varieties of the Posthorns, so all my Noggy stamps are actually still unorganised. On the opposite side I love those of NZ!!

Stamp wise blaamand, we do have a lot in common - if you love early NZ issues as I do. My Norway isnt terribly great to be honest. In fact it really doesnt rate in my top 10. I haven't done anything with them since buying that lot in an auction all those years ago. Anyway, perhaps I shall show them in some pictures some time. I might even give them away! Who knows All the best PS I have answered that Chalon query of yours now too Dave
