Hi Neil
Yes, I agree with Dave, very nice set. I assume you noticed the 4d yellow is SG139a with part letters T H SAUNDERS watermark. Even nicer having that.
Cheers Grant

Cheers Grant Thanks Grant, You know I didn't. I've been flat out like a lizard drinking. When I add a piece to the collection I try to scan it upon arrival otherwise it just backs up and becomes a chore - so I put the items in the card, scanned them, posted the picture, and got on with work and as soon as I saw your comment just now I looked at the image again and there it was, as obvious as anything. The source didn't have any idea either as I checked the description they gave. Double cool because now it can sit with this one.

Does there exist, a full image of the double lined T H Saunders Watermark bits? I have only seen his 1860, 1863, and 1871 bits. The fount was always different.

I'm not sure the dated T H SAUNDERS watermark made it to NZ for FFQ. I believe it was just the name. The below from Tom Lee and John Watts excellent book on NZ Chalons. FYI there is a piece of THSaunders paper dated 1871 for sale on eBay at the moment. www.ebay.com/itm/274296423566 Cheers, Neilmac

With regard to the THSaunders wmk in the 1873 no wmk printings of the NZ Chalon - SG137 - 139 - I was reading Odenwellers book the other day and found a couple of interesting pages about this. neilmac shows a large block of the 4d orange-yellow above. Apologies for my pics which have the date and time showing on them (I must remember to turn this feature off). Dave

Also in the Odenweller book is a section on catalog numbering systems used globally. Great for finding out what other catalog numbers are used other than SG or CP (like Scott for example). Dave

Dave Yes I agree - but I am starting to like my own ID numbers better. So much more logical and room to add anything that's found without disturbing the apple cart - even the 2d Green Neil

Yes. Yours is a great numbering system, as we discussed previously, but to get it universally accepted will take quite some lobbying. Of course, you could buy Stanley Gibbons and completely rewrite their numbering system with yours. I hear that Gary Channon is open to offers currently lol Dave PS You and gc really do need to learn to reply to quotes properly. I see that the mods are constantly having to fix yours and gc 's replies as you seem to be adding comments within the "[ quote]" "[ /quote]" field. Add replies after the "[/quote]" and things will appear as they should. Therefore, please preview your use of the quote function before posting. Cheers (on behalf of the very busy mods ... )

neilmac , You are certainly not alone in this regard. Before you click on "Create post" look in the Preview tab to see if your reply is in or out of the quote. If the former, switch to the BBCode tab, then cut your reply and paste it outside of the quote box. Switch back to the Preview tab and if all looks good, create the post.

Hi all
I can normally work things out, BUT I am now totally confused.
Can someone ( in really easy language to follow ) tell me how I reply to a post ( which is two days old for example ). A post which is not the last one in the queue.
Thanks Grant

The replies don't thread within the topic, so the best you can do is reply to the topic and your reply will be at the end of the topic.
To refer to the earlier post, you could tag the author (@username) or quote the relevant part of the post you're replying to. That's what I did here.
Just click the quote button on the post you're replying to and type below the quote.
If the post you're replying to is long, you can always edit the quoted part to include an excerpt. For sure you likely want to remove any images from the quote as that makes the topic quite repetitive.
Does any of this help? Apologies if I missed the essence of your question.

Thanks Grant Hey gc Grant Not a real biggie in the context of world issues, but I have been noticing the frequent misuse of the quote function by you and neilmac , which results in a moderator having to correct your replies. Here is the jist of the issue and how to correct it : When you use the "Quote" function to reply to a specific post, you use the "Quote" button at the top of the post you want to reply to. When the reply box opens up you are presented with the following : Start your reply outside of the quoted text as per below: Any issues please PM me and we can discuss further offline. Cheers Dave

Here is an interesting one team - below are the normal 2 shades of SG5, 'Richardsons' on blue paper : and then there is this one - looks like a very overly inked printing (wet print) on blue paper : Grant & Neil and others - have you seen such a thing in the 'Richardsons' before? Dave

Dave Hi Dave, I'll go out on a limb and suggest you have an 8a Deep ultramarine there. Nice stamp too. The paper can get a bluing effect at times especially if it's been 'cleaned' but is not usually blue like the SG5. That's my guess anyways. Neil

Maybe yours is close to second one? Hey Neil Thanks for the 2 replies re the 'in question' SG5. There is definitely something 'unusual' with that one for sure. I was wondering if it may be re-backed due to the characteristics it exudes. But under bright light I can clearly see thru it as per a normal SG5. Also, the overinking has really thickened the frame lines around the stamp, and the extra ink spots in the gutters make it really odd. Also, the PB '2' cancel of 'Russell' seems doubled as well as parts of the 11-bar obliterator. It is most odd all round, but the grey-blue paper has that bleached area at the top left (as seen from the reverse) which affects some other SG5's I possess also!! But, the paper is the lighter grey-blue of your 2nd SG5 you display, not like the deep blue paper of my 1st SG5 'normal' above. The Greenish tinge to the blue ink may also match yours and my 2nd SG5. I know that it really needs to go for an opinion, but after spending up a wee bit at the ACS Auction today, it may have to wait ... lol How did you go today at the Auction? Win anything you can share with us? I hope gc did - I had a feeling he had his eye on 3-4 lots for his collection Dave PS Nice SG8a's of yours above too Neil. Beautiful examples. I personally don't believe my 'in question' SG5 above to be one. But hey, anything is possible

I personally don't believe my 'in question' SG5 above to be one. But hey, anything is possible Yes Dave, there was some interesting things happening back then with the printing of these stamps. Many folk forget that the Blue paper prints were Richardson's first and still 1855 so plenty of experimenting and learning being done by him, so anomalies in those early days were the norm. SG3b, SG7, the Dwarf prints, Castle cover and who knows what else. Yes, yesterday was fun. I managed to get quite a few of the lots I wanted yesterday and am very happy with what I got tbh. I was the underbidder on quite a few as well Among others I got the Humphries proof which was the first lot - Beautiful piece). I also managed to get the collection of SG2 near the beginning and some of the covers. I got that Counterfeit Marotiri overprint to add to the Pigeons so happy with that. I did wonder at one stage if I was bidding against any of you? How about you folks? Get any gems? Neil
