Hey Neil
If you were paddle 3006 or 3009 then I know you got some good lots - quite a few! lol :-)
I got 5 lots - 2 are Chalons: - a common 3d SG40 with a nice unframed datestamp and - a mourning cover with the only pair of SG126 1d brown p10 known on cover
The other 3 lots I won are early flight covers. I may start a thread on Flight Covers at some point ...

Impressive!
Wow, you did get some nice lots. Noted that you had to battle for a few of them tho' - well done.
My pockets are not so deep, but I try .. lol
Looking forward to seeing some of the 'wins' once they arrive. David and Nigel are pretty quick with getting them onto the courier. You may even have them by tomorrow!!

Yes - I like pigeons as you know. I also like the stars overprints. I have about 20 of them for some reason. There’s a couple of Chalons in there too potentially but I’m away and so might turn into a tricky exercise!

I won quite a few up front and then lost 8 in a row. I lost the 1d Dull orange pair on cover with overlap. I wanted it but I think I knew who the other bidder was and knew he really wanted it and that he had superior resources so I jumped early. No point costing him money.

Very good Neil.
Well, make sure you post one or two of your purchases when you get the chance. We all here love to see images of nice Chalons - or any classic item in fact.
Congrats for a successful auction.

Well, my 5 lots turned up by courier this morning. ACS are great at getting the won lots off promptly. This is the 1862 Davies 3d bown lilac imperf won, with an unframed 'Nelson' CDS to top left - SG40 It came with an Odenweller cert as well - although I really don't understand why people get certs for these lesser valued not so rare items. Not much debate in it being SG40 ! Perhaps Klaus got a job lot of them done at a reduced price per item. Andrew Murphy has mentioned that for his items with certs before. A bulk deal! Dave

This was one of my recent purchases from Klaus Mollers collection. I love this item - a proof from Humphries for Perkins, Bacon.

I like proofs. They give us a very accurate idea of what the engravers and printers set out to achieve before high production and plate wear intervene.

And these Perkins Bacon proof blocks. Hopefully if you click on them they will go full size - they are good quality scans.

And finally on Chalon proofs, this item from the auction. 3d in black on India paper, on card with angled corners. Extremely rare. RPS Certificate (2006) submitted for certification by none other than one J Hackmey. This was lot 1006 in Joseph Hackmey's Part 1 sale (2009), Sir Gawaine Baillie (2006), and Christie's Robson Lowe (1989). The provenance almost makes it worth more than the item itself! Well you've got to enjoy yourself don't you. Side note: This sold for approx. US$7500 in 2009 and last week NZ$3,000. I'm wondering what that means? But happy that it did.

One of the Stafford correspondence covers from the auction. SG4 1d red on blue paper on cover. Magnificent piece. Complete with Christie's Robson Lowe opinion.

Great items Neil. Thanks for posting them for us to enjoy. Yes. The PB Plate proofs are great for their detail, prior to printing millions of stamps from the plates. Here is the 2d plate 1 plate proof before printing production began : And as SG113, after printing millions : Dave

Bisect #2, SG6a This one is a classic story. Apparently the cover sold in the 1940s as a genuine cover (it is), but without any postmarks. Fast forward a couple of decades and it now has postmarks, and an RPS certificate after it got the postmarks (curious that the name of the submitter has been excised!). Or is it a case of mistaken identity? I love this about stamp collecting - what really happened and whodunnit!? Should I put this with my Counterfeit collection or with my FFQ collection (most of my Counterfeits are FFQ so it won't be lonely.

I couldn't have substantiated paying $12,500 for it. It makes me think where best to sell up when the day comes though!

It is amazing too that the person who 'manipulated' that cover had such a nice copy of the PB '18" and the Red London 'Paid' cancels to apply to it. Makes you wonder how many other stamps & covers have been manipulated - and the present day owners not being aware! Dangerous stuff! Apart from that, a bl**dy nice looking cover :-) Dave

Not quite up to your high standards Neil, but this one just received in this afternoon. I believe this to be SG12 Richardson 6d pale bistre brown. It was sold as SG14 Pale brown. Either way, I bought it because it has a nice obliterator PB '4' of Mongonui. One of the scarcer PB oblits. Dave

Right up to standard. I notice in CP there are 12 shades of A5a so can understand the confusion, even among dealers who don’t have a reference library. I have found you need to own them all to see the subtle differences and of course not many can do that. Cheers, Neil

Still, the cover looks the part and is still impressive to see.

Is it thick or thin paper Dave? Definitely my thin paper Bistre looks way lighter than my thick paper. It is thin, hard VM paper although not as thin as some papers. The shade fits nicely with my other bistre shades too. Dave

I wasn't so lucky with the auction. Always next time. I did wín these two. The cover isn't rare, I just like the super crisp Edinburgh CDS, a re-direction cover The second is a poor copy, but I wanted it go on my Revenues and Duties page. I am sure it is a "Pd" 2/- ( Paid 2/- ). Also re-entry Row 18, No 5 Cheers Grant
