Introducing the Virtual Stamp ShowSix Days to Showcase Stamp Collecting!
The American Philatelic Society, American Topical Association and the American First Day Cover Society are welcoming free registrations for the Virtual Stamp Show. The online event begins on Monday, August 17 and runs through Saturday, August 22, 2020. Highlights of the week will include: Buy and Sell stamps: We will be connecting attendees directly with APS Dealer members, the largest dealer community in the world, to conduct virtual transactions. Two First Day of Issue Celebrations, in conjunction with USPS: Thursday, August 20: The “Innovation” pane of 20 Forever Stamps with 5 designs, hosted by the American First Day Cover Society. Friday, August 21: The “Thank You” booklet of 20 Forever stamps with 4 designs, hosted by the American Topical Association. Interactive Panels: Topics will include “The Future of Philately” and “Navigating Collecting during COVID-19.” "Stamp Expert House Call": Send photos or scans of items you would like help in identifying or valuing. We will have experts on hand to give you feedback! The session will be sponsored by the APEX, the American Philatelic Expertizing Service. AMA (Ask Me Anything) sessions: Scheduled sessions include “Ask the Editor” with The American Philatelist Editor in Chief Gary Loew; “Ask the Librarian” with APRL Head Librarian Scott Tiffney; “All about Social Media” with Social Media Manager Heidi Lauckhardt-Rhodes. Exhibits: Attendees will be able to show their exhibits in a virtual format Awards: The APS, ATA and AFDCS will announce the winners of their annual awards. There will be an evening session for the APS/APRL Honors for winners of the Luff, Peterson, Mueller, and Allen Awards, along with other APS awards. Meetings: The co-sponsors (APS, ATA and AFDCS) will all hold online public meetings during the Virtual Stamp Show. Other clubs, societies and affiliates are welcome to schedule virtual meetings during the show. There will be more announcements about the Virtual Stamp Show ahead. Registration is required to attend the event. Please register by August 16th to receive full registration benefits.

Virtual Stamp Show Exhibitor Information Revised July 20, 2020 The Virtual Stamp Show is scheduled for August 17-22, 2020, sponsored by the American Philatelic Society, the American Topical Association, and the American First Day Cover Society.
Registration for this six-day event is free and open to everyone!
Whether you are an experienced or first-time exhibitor, the Virtual Stamp Show is open to your presentations in our one of a kind, online showcase. Your exhibit can cover any area of philately that stokes your passion for stamp collecting!
All Virtual Stamp Show exhibits include the opportunity for attendees to share their feedback. First time exhibitors may receive tips from veteran philatelists. Experienced exhibitors can try new, unique approaches and get instant feedback.
Entries will be separated into two categories:
Traditional: those who have previously shown at a national or WSP show (or higher level). Limit: Up to 160 pages or 10 exhibit frames. Innovative: New exhibitors. Limit: Up to 16 pages or 1 exhibit frame.
For each category, Virtual Stamp Show attendees can vote for their favorite exhibits, with awards to the top finishers:

If you would like to be a Virtual Stamp Show Exhibitor, we ask that you adhere to the following:

“Philatelic Research and the British Library” David Beech
David Beech was the curator of the British Library Philatelic Collections from 1983–2013 becoming Head of Philatelic Collections in 1991.
He is a Fellow and past President of the Royal Philatelic Society London. In 2013, it was announced that Beech was to receive the Smithsonian Philatelic Achievement Award for outstanding lifetime accomplishments in the field of philately. He is a member of The Royal Philatelic Society of New Zealand, The Royal Philatelic Society of Canada, the Collectors Club of New York, the American Philatelic Research Library and the Académie Europeénne de Philatélie.
In October 2016 David was keynote speaker for the Grand Opening of the American Philatelic Research Library.
“Copyright and Philately” Charles Oppenheim
Charles Oppenheim is a Visiting Professor at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland and is an independent consultant. Until 2009, Charles was Professor of Information Science and Head of the Department of Information Science at Loughborough University. He has delivered presentations and published over 650 journal articles, conference papers, reports, books and book chapters on the subjects of copyright, intellectual property rights and other legal issues relevant to library and information work and to academic research.
“Moving House – A New Home for the Royal Philatelic Society London” Chris King
Chris King was elected as a signatory to the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists at Ypres in 2014, and currently serves on the RDP Board of Election, and the RDP trust.
As Chairman of The British Philatelic Trust, he guided the digitization of the Crawford Library at the British Library. Chris was Co-Founder of The Global Philatelic Library along with Frank Walton RDP, an initiative that consolidated listings of philatelic publications, archives, and museum items held by 27 worldwide philatelic libraries.
He currently serves on the RPSL Publications Committee and the Museum Committee of the Museum of Philatelic History. Chris is a specialist in the philately of Scandinavia, particularly Schleswig and is a nationally and internationally accredited philatelic juror. In 2019 he oversaw the relocation of the RSPSL.
“Christmas Stamp Design Process" Illustrator Alan Dunne
Alan Dunne is an illustrator and author based in Ireland, working in painting, picture books, graphic printmaking, paper-craft and moving images.
He is passionate about all aspects of the graphic arts and is hugely interested in vernacular design and uncovering stories through cultural-historical archives.
Before becoming an independent artist, he worked for 12 years in broadcast design for RTÉ Television, Ireland’s national public service broadcaster. His work has won various design awards and he is shortlisted for the World Illustration Awards for his commissioned postage stamps designs for An Post, Ireland's postal service.
“Women in Philately” Lisa Foster, Women Exhibitors
Lisa Foster, a female philatelist, exhibitor, and lifelong stamp collector has been a member of Women Exhibitors (WE) since its inception in 2007, and currently serves as President.
A member of the Northwest Federation of Stamp Clubs (NWFSC), Ms. Foster has been a Regional Philatelic judge since 2015, serves on the committee to promote exhibiting and was awarded the Northwest Distinguished Philatelist Award in 2019. She was Guest Editor of the February 2020 issue of The American Philatelist, which was devoted to Women in Philately.
Ms. Foster is a 25-plus year member of APS with additional philatelic memberships with the ATA, AFDCS and AAPE.
Presenting at the APS Virtual Stamp Show will support a goal of WE’s “Plan to Promote Women in Philately” by increasing accessibility through online philatelic events.
“Hometown Collecting: People and Places via Postcards and Postmarks” Cheryl Ganz
Cheryl R. Ganz, former Chief Curator of Philately at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum, enjoys a life-long interest in zeppelins and airmail. Her interest led her to focus her philatelic collections on zeppelin mail worldwide with specialization in U.S. airships, the 1933 Graf Zeppelin Chicago flight, and the Hindenburg. She also collects U.S., France, Germany, and Switzerland philately. In addition to research and writing, she has exhibited worldwide, including in the Court of Honor at Washington 2006 World Philatelic Exhibition. Ganz serves as co-editor of The Zeppelin Collector, is a past-president of the American Air Mail Society, and serves on the Ethics Committee of the American Philatelic Society.
Her many awards include the Aerophilatelic Hall of Fame, the Federation Internationale des Societes Aerophilateliques Gold Medal for outstanding contributions to aerophilately, and the Newberry Award for contributions to Chicagoland philately. She is a life member of APS, APRL, AAMS, GPS, and AAPE. Ganz earned a PhD in history from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is author of A New Deal for Progress: The 1933 Chicago World’s Fair and co-editor of and contributor to Pots of Promise: Mexicans and Pottery at Hull-House.
"United States Mails: Its First 80 Years Without Stamps” Robert G. Rose Robert G. Rose is a lifelong philatelist, an active society member, an author. He is the recipient of numerous exhibitor awards including Chicagopex, NOJEX, March Party,and NAPEX.
While attending graduate school in New York, Rose worked for Robert A. Siegel Auction Galleries as the lot describer for the Lilly Collection that included Lilly’s Inverted Jenny. Mr. Rose remains an active member in several philatelic organizations.
He serves as Chairman of the Board for the Philatelic Foundation, is a member of the Board of Governors for the Collectors Club, serves as Governor for the United States Stamp Society, the Regional Vice President for the United State Philatelic Classics Society, Chairman of the NOJEX Stamp Show.
He is the Chairman of the New Jersey Postal History Society and is a former member of the Smithsonian Council of Philatelists. He is currently a member of the Royal Philatelic Society and the Jockey Hollow Stamp Club.
“Baseball and Stamp Collecting: Covering all the Bases” James Gates Jim Gates has served as Library Director at the National Baseball Hall of Fame since 1995 where he is responsible for the management of more than 3 million documents related to our great National Pastime.
This collection includes books, player files, photographs, scrapbooks, personal papers, many hours of recorded media, along with a baseball philatelic collection.
Jim and his staff work with museum curators, the media, publishers, educators, researchers, fans, and anyone who is interested in conducting baseball research. He had previously served in academic libraries for almost fifteen years.
During his career Jim has authored multiple articles, delivered lectures on baseball history around the country, and has served in an editorial capacity on multiple book, magazine and museum publications. He also serves as host for the Annual Cooperstown Symposium on "Baseball and American Culture. He has been a stamp collector since the 1960s.
"ESPER: The Art of Philatelic Inclusivity" Warachal Faison, MD, CMD
Dr. Faison is a geriatric psychiatrist and Medical Director, Women’s and Men’s Health at Pfizer.
Prior to joining Pfizer in 2008, Dr. Faison was the Clinical Director, Alzheimer’s Research & Clinical Programs at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).
She is the President of the Ebony Society for Philatelic Events and Reflections (ESPER)
"Cachet Making" Nirlay Kundu
Nirlay is a watercolor artist and cachetmaker who began collecting stamps when he was child in Kolkata, India where he graduated from St. Lawrence High School and Jadavpur University
Nirlay is a Distinguished Engineer at Verizon Innovation Labs. He is currently managing Infrastructure Operations and Deployment in Verizon’s datacenters. Prior to this, Nirlay was involved in evaluating and choosing vendors for new technology, doing proof of concepts in the LTE EPC space. He holds Bachelors and Masters degrees from Jadavpur University, IIT Kharagpur, Leicester University and MBA from Babson College. He is a frequent speaker and events related to telecommunications.
Beginning with in 2005, cachetmaking combines his interests in recent US issues and watercolors with the end product being very colorful and engaging first day cover cachets.
"Women Stamp Designers and Engravers" Richard Morel, PhD
Richard is the Curator of the Philatelic Collections at The British Library. He is a widely accomplished historian, archivist and curator.
Since graduating from the University College London in 2003 where he recieved his MA in Archives and Records Management.
Richard’s research interests include philately, notaphily (study of banknotes), sigillography (the study of seals), Royal Diplomatic correspondence and the history of lost libraries.
"African American Suffragists and the Vote" Mary Love, PhD
Mary is an adjunct professor of Christian education at Hood Theological Seminary.
Love has a valuable, focused collection of U.S. Postal Service stamps that celebrate black heritage. She incorporates her stamps into storyboards, collages, posters, framed displays and other media as a way to educate. Fascinated by stamps as a child, Love tried an early homemade collection of stamps she would cut off envelopes on mail coming to her house.
Her preservation of that collection failed miserably, and she gained interest again only when a seminary professor took her on a tour of the postal museum in Washington and she also attended a stamp show.
Love began seriously collecting about 20 years ago. It was then that she knew the proper preservation techniques and also began her on focus African-American heritage stamps because of their educational value. Her favorite stamp is that of Ida B. Wells, who was born a slave in Mississippi in 1862.

Virtual Stamp Show concluded with 3,205 collectors having registered to view 89 events and 112 exhibits. If you missed any of the exhibits, they are still available for viewing here. Videos of the events are being posted on the APS online learning platform, C3a. You will also find the Virtual Stamp Show 2020 playlist on YouTube. The Dealer Bourse will also remain open this week as a service to members. Two USPS dedication ceremonies were conducted during the event for the " Thank You" and " Innovation" stamps. You may view them on the APS YouTube channel by clicking on their respective links.
