I was under the impression that FDC that were cancelled a day late could only be counted as FDC if the first day of issue was a Sunday and the post office was closed. I have several 2nd Day Covers and some are marked with FDC cachets (see below). Can anyone tell me about the rules of a FDC. Thanks to everyone weighing in on this. Jeff

I don't know of any special rules for FDC's. Scott Specialized Catalog lists the FD for the 1/2 cent Prexie as May 19, 1938, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, block of six. I would use Scott as the authority as most FDC collectors do. What you post is an image of a first-day of regular usage cover. It is my impression that some people collected these back in the 1930s and early 1940s, but to my knowledge they carry little premium, if a buyer can be found.

Thanks Don. I knew that was an exception for a Sunday FDC sometimes, but this is the first I have run into someone's old collection that was consistently 2nd day or 1st WEEK of usage. - Jeff
