ok--I just received my weekly Linn's via email and I saw a letter to the editor concerning the new Bugs Bunny issue.
I could not agree more with the writer of the letter.
I can't help but saying -- I LOVE BUGS BUNNY!! From a young age, that crazy rabbit has been one of my heroes, and I am not saying that lightly.
I know it seems silly to some to have him featured on a stamp, but I am one who believes that stamp collecting should reflect the culture.
I too want more engraved stamps, and there are many underrepresented subjects for stamps, but there is room for a piece of Americana like my friend Bugs.
While I do not collect U.S., I will will certainly buy a sheet to put on my mail (most usually trades)

I grew up with Bugs and all his Looney friends. I even learned to sort of appreciate, if not really like, classical music through Bugs ('Kill the Wabbit, Kill the Wabbit!") I have Bugs Bunny and Wiley E. Coyote neckties (though I haven't worn a necktie in at least 12 years; my kids have borrowed them though!). All that said, I am not enamored with the new stamps - Bugs has been modernized to some extent that I don't get. That's ok though, Bugs went through many iterations whilst I was a kid, and perhaps these new iterations will resonate with today's kids.

I was disappointed in the editor's comment about why no 75th WWII anniversary. He quoted the guidelines like many do to justify their actions. I consider this not biting the hands that feeds you.
If they actually followed the guidelines, we would not have many stamps such as Harry Potter, endless superhero issues, and series like Celebrate the Century that broke all the anniversary rules. The guidelines are only used to justify why a stamp a stamp is not issued rather than why it is issued.

Why not have Bugs Bunny and other characters like him that make you smile? We have so many stamps featuring sour faced politicians - who rarely made ANYONE smile. Except for the collector that has a rare variety. Bugs was one of my favorite characters when I was a kid. I used to be up at the crack of dawn for those Saturday morning cartoons in the early 60's.
