I like to add flags and other relevant bit and pieces to my album pages. I want a "vintage" look, so that pose a problem with modern flags from wikipedia etc. Here is my approach of "vintage style" DIY. I hope you'll find it interesting Note: You can also create vintage photos out of modern images. If people are interested, let me know - then I'll create a separate how-to thread for that. I use Pixelmator software. But I guess any image editing software with layering capabilities can be used. So, let's begin. Grap your flag, let's use Stars & Stripes in this tutorial: Vintage images were less detailed. To de-focus, use "Gaussian Blur" effect, with 1-2 pixel setting: Add a bit of noise. Here I use 5% monochrome setting: Next is colouring. I adjust with a Sepia tone, 30%: The final step is applying a vintage texture. I use this: tutorials-cdn.pixelmator.com/vintage-effect2/Old%20Paper%20Texture.jpgSimply drag-and-drop it to your composition. The texture will appear as a new layer. Change the texture layer’s Blending to Multiply, since the Multiply blending mode darkens and tones down the color of an image. Also reduce Opacity a bit to get a perfect texture blend with your image. Here I use 80% opacity: This is it. Now you have a vintage looking flag for your albums

An excellent tutorial, thanks I use the The GImp for editing images, I am going to try and duplicate your process with it.
