I have quite a few fancy cancels on Empire of Brazil stamps and would like to know if there is a way to view the cancellations better with some kind of light source or a scanning technique. I would love to see what some of the weaker cancels look like.

I'm afraid I can't help you with suggestions on how to view cancels more clearly the traditional ways, but I do find that doing it digitally has a lot of benefits. Maybe try retroReveal?

For improving, removing or enhancing cancels, this thread, ' Software to aid collectors' begun by Robert ( WERT ) has some good information including software options...
Happy collecting!

The most common technique would be to remove the color of the design in software so only the cancel is shown. I recall reading a how to but now cannot remember where I saw it.

It is relatively easy to remove individual colours using an application such as GIMP. There are plenty of tutorial available on the topic and here is just one,
Have fun & happy collecting!

As for the viewing of and highlighting cancellations, the results you shared are fantastic examples. If you have the time and are willing to share, can you walk us through the process and different steps involved?
Thanks and happy collecting!
