Hi Sarah and welcome. I have no doubt you will be a fan of the Annigoni portrait as used on Hong Kong amongst others . I reckon it the most attractive of all her portraits.

Thank you for the lovely welcome.
London Bus 1 I am the enquiring mind. I may have come across you previously but not for a long while as I started to study other items about HM Queen.
I hope that I may learn from you experts about stamps but also give some info back as a non stamp collector. I am not a specialist in stamps. I collect HM Queen stamps as part of an obsession with all portraits of HM Queen. I really hope that I can add some details about some of the artists over time and that you can help teach me about the technical side of stamps.

The Annigoni portrait is amazing. I have been lucky and found a signed Stampex cover from 1963. I have put a picture in my HM Queen thread. I would love to see your stamps.

Greetings, sarah, and welcome to TSF! Sorry for being a bit late to the party in responding to your intro. I have already been admiring some of your other posts. I agree that the Annigoni portrait of the Queen is beautiful, but my personal favourite of her stamp images is this one: I realise that she was still Princess Elizabeth when this stamp was issued in 1950, but I think she looks a bit happier and perhaps a bit more carefree than she would become after she took over the throne sooner than expected due to the untimely passing of her father. I always thought that this was a rather underrated image of her. I really like it. Anyway, welcome again to the Forum! I hope that you will enjoy your time with us. Kind Regards from an American living in the UK, -Chris ( Beryllium Guy)

It is a lovely stamp and a beautiful picture. I believe it was probably taken by Dorothy Wilding. She was so pretty when she was younger. She is an incredible lady in how she has dedicated her life to the service of being Queen. It will be one incredibly sad day when she passes away. The vast majority of people in the UK and around the world have not known anything else but her being Queen. Don't think people realise just how many changes will occur especially in terms of coins, stamps, coronation ceremony etc

Britain really is fortunate to have such a monarch. She is quite amazing.
As an American, the concept of a monarchy seems strange. BUT when I consider how elegant it is to separate the head of state functions from the job of the head of the government, I believe that is a smart system.
We expect our president to function politically, then act as the Face of the country for banquets, presentations etc etc. It really is too much to expect. If we are lucky, we have a president and significant other who are capable of performing these functions graciously, but, unfortunately, that is not always true. Personally, I would prefer to have a president concentrating on Governing and leave the symbolic and social functions to another. Also, the constant elections means that the "head of state" keeps changing and there is no continuity. So while our Constitution rejected a Constitutional Monarchy, there are times when I wonder if we threw out the baby with the bath water so to speak!
