Today I was able to sort through some more stamps that had arrived earlier this week and I picked out some that caught my eye for one reason or another. The diamond shaped stamp is from Tannu Tuva acording to Colnect which is a place I've never heard of and doesn't feature in my SG Stamps of the World catalogue. Looking online it's no surprise either as the country was only ever recognised as such by 2 others being the Soviet Union and Mongolia during a very short period between 1924-26 (according to Wikipedia). The other stamps I've chosen either because of various reasons such as postmark, perforations or lack thereof or just the detail evident such as on the Canada stamp. I think I saw on a Exploring Stamps video recently that if a stamp is marked "Specimen" it's because that one was used as a template to spot forgeries or errors. Cheers, Mark

Nice stamps Mark! My 1987 copy of the Philatelic Atlas has this to say on Tannu-Tuva:

"SPECIMEN" overprints or perfins were used by Universal Postal Union (UPU) members to show the members their latest issues. Not all issues were treated in this manner. I suppose when they had symposium's, they would take the latest in folders to hand out to other nations.
In later years, a con job to get more money from collectors, such as Tuvalu & Kiribati, like yours. They are neat though, I kept all my Tuvalu SPECIMEN and OFFICIAL overprints when I had a standing order account with them way back in the 80's.

Many years ago the topic of Tuvan stamps came up somewhere on TSF so I immediately jumped off track and posted about Tuvan throat singing. Have a look at this old post if you want some of that nonsense (and it could lead you to quantum mechanics too, if that floats your boat). Hooray for Tuvan throat singing! Ryan
