I was putting together some material for an exchange club and came across different perf designs for 1538, but the Scott Catalog does not list a variety. In the bottom example the perfs are sharper points than the top. Both are 11.5.

They both measure out to 11.5. There are only the 11.5 (1536-1539) and a 12.5 x 13 (1539C-F) shown in Scotts.

The third perforation variety, 14 x 14.5 (Scott 1531), I did not mention as it is a regular issue and not a self adhesive, serpentine cut. Below are all three scott listed numbers - 1531, 1538, and 1539E

Eagle-eye WERT noticed the key difference -- those 2 stamps are not the same die-cut gauge. There are actually a total of 4 different perforation varieties: 1 for the water-activated stamp, and 3 for the self-adhesive stamps. Scott does list all 4, although the Scott does not give individual minor catalog numbers for the perf 11¼ variety: #1531, perf 14x14½, water-activated #1538, serp die cut 11½, self-adhesive #1538i, serp die cut 11¼, self-adhesive (booklet pane of 5 of each of the 4 stamps) #1539E, serp die cut 12½x13, self-adhesive From your last picture, left to right in each row, it would appear to be: row 1: #1538i (single from the booklet of 20) row 2: #1531, #1538, #1539E

Thanks for the help. I'm working off an older copy of Scott's which didn't show the 11.25 variety, so I didn't look as closely as I should have on the perforation. Guess it's time to find a newer reference set.
