The forum received the following questions from a guest. The answers may exist in the Gibbons catalog front matter; however, I don't have any Gibbons catalogs so I am looking to the membership. If you can provide clarification for him, please post your response(s) here.

Can some one please explain the First Day Cover prices in the Stanley Gibbons Catalogues. There is a FDC price and then there are Special First Day of Issue Postmarks. Are the post marks additional to the FDC price if they are on the FDC ?

As far as I am aware SG list FDC as issued by the philatelic bureau in Edinburgh with a basic First Day of Issue Cancel

With each stamp issue however there may be produced a special cancel with an illustrated motif appropriate to the issue. These would be first day covers with a Special cancel and as such will have a somewhat higher price.

The prices quoted with be for covers including either the regular or a special cancel.

what ever it is , it's better than a poke in the eye from a wet umbrella!
