It is time to rectify a terrible oversight on this forum...there is no seashells on stamps thread! I will start with this really handsome set from Hong Kong, Sc. nos. 803-806. A clam (probably a scallop of some type), a cowrie, a cone and a murex are depicted on this set that was issued on November 9, 1997.

Let's encourage this very good idea with a nice block issue from the French Antarctic Territories: Seashells is not something I would have associated with polar waters, I must say...

I am a great proponent of paying attention to and collecting what arrives in my mailbox, especially commercial covers that use pre-sort stamps, non-profit stamps and postcard stamps like the ones below. There have been a number of attractive postcard rates stamps recently including shorebirds, the recent coral reefs issue and seashells. All are die-cut self-adhesive and come in sheet format as well as coils. I am lucky in that we have an eye doctor who uses postcards to remind us of upcoming appointments. I also have a friend and former boss, now retired, who knows I like this type of thing and he occasionally sends me postcards from his travels. In the case of two of the below cards, they come from a township in Michigan called Hell. As you can imagine, they do a lot of clever things with their town name. Definitely check out the postmarks as well as the name of the ice cream shop on the postcards sent from Hell! The Sc. catalog information is below. I was also able to obtain the plate no. single on cover, plate #P111111 which is printed at the bottom of the conch shell on the last card image below. The plate number is printed on every 32nd stamp of the coil roll in this case. 5167 (34¢) Alphabet Cone shell coil stamp, serpentine die cut 9¾ vert. 5168 (34¢) Zebra Nerite shell coil stamp, serpentine die cut 9¾ vert. 5169 (34¢) Queen Conch shell coil stamp, serpentine die cut 9¾ vert. 5170 (34¢) Pacific Calico Scallop shell coil stamp, serpentine die cut 9¾ vert.

Among the Mayotte stamps I received, this nice sheetlet showing local seashells: Unfortunately, this Mayotte lot turned out to be dud for me. I had ordered it on the off chance that I would get some of the stamps I'm missing (which is not very many, granted, but they are low CV and I thought I might get lucky). But no cigar... Which of course means they may be found in an upcoming giveaway. Third confinement anyone???
