Daniel and all Here is the same cover but unsigned and with the illustrated Special Handstamp for the Sixtieth Anniversary of the Formation of No 10 Squadron BFPS 1489. It has the same blue insert as your above post. I also attach and image of the cover rear. Also note diff. flight crew. Hence in this particular area of collecting there are a number of variations on covers either signed, crews or colour of the text. Geoff (GBCC) www.gbcovercollector.co.uk

A Scottish Aerogramme issued for the 150th Anniversary of the Glasgow School of Art, dated 4th April 1995. In 2014 there was a fire which caused significant damage to the Mackintosh Building. In 2018, while still being restored, the building was completely gutted by yet another fire. A terrible tragedy.

Battle of Hastings 1066 Further to the covers posted up by Cursus and Renden below are 2 covers with the Special Handstamp. Hastings Day is the 14th October and there have been a number of Special Event Covers over the years Commemorating Hastings Day, which I will look to post up over the forthcoming days. Anyway back to the Battle of Hastings Stamp issue from 1966 and covers as below. It can sometimes be missed , the postmarks are different as in one the swords point up and in the other they point down Geoff (GBCC) www.gbcovercollector.co.uk

The importance to always remember to look at the rear of a cover and also inside the cover if it is open is exampled as below. The below is a recently purchased plain cover that was amongst a large number of other covers in a mixed auction lot. On the face of it a plain FDC for the Churchill issue. However on looking on the rear, those words ' 10 Downing Street Whitehall and then on checking inside there is what I would call a 'Compliment slip' headed with the Prime Minister crest.Takes it now above being just a plain cover and if I was selling it (which I am not and added to the FDC collection) adds a bit of premium to its value. Have started a little bit of research as to the recipients address, which in 1965 was a private boarding school for girls, Who is 'J' at Number 10, initial guess is a civil servant? Yet to research Bryony KENDERDINE Cover rear and insert also shown below. Geoff (GBCC) www.gbcovercollector.co.uk

...Who is 'J' at Number 10, initial guess is a civil servant?... My guess would be the Prime Minister at the time, James Harold Wilson. I doubt that a staff member would use the PM's letterhead for personal correspondence.

I can’t see Harold Wilson actually typing a note and the envelope.
I don’t think he would have sent “xx” kisses, that is a very feminine thing to do especially in 1965 Britain .
I do not believe he used the initials J.
This points to one of the secretaries in his office who would have access to office stationery

Coming soon. Commemorating 40 years Since the Liberation of the Falkland Islands On the 14th of June 1982 following 74 days of intense fighting British Armed Forces freed the Falkland Islands from Argentinian occupation. This day became known as 'Liberation Day' and is celebrated each year by the Islanders. 2022 sees the 40th Anniversary of the Liberation and to mark this BFPS will be publishing a commemorative cover to be issued on the 14th of June 2022. The Falkland Islands have commissioned a special logo for their celebrations this year and they have kindly given BFPS permission to use the logo on the commemorative cover. A bespoke special handstamp bearing the BFPS 3239 serial number will be used to cancel a 1st class commemorative stamp. Two versions of the cover will be available: • Standard unsigned version (£8). • Numbered limited edition of just 74 (£16) signed by former RAF and Royal Navy pilot David Morgan who flew Harriers during the Falklands War. Perkins Bacon certainly had a most interesting and complicated history. Founded by American Jacob Perkins, the company changed partners and its name multiple times. In 1819 it was Perkins, Fairman and Heath which became Perkins and Heath then Perkins Bacon and by 1834 it was Perkins, Bacon and Petch who printed the Penny Black and Two Pence Blue in 1840. By 1935 the company had gone out of business and their records were ultimately acquired by the Royal Philatelic Society, London. The company seems to have been revived several times and by the time of the 150th Anniversary of the Penny Black in 1990, MB-Clarke could claim ownership of the Perkins Bacon name. Hence this first day cover for the miniature sheet with a nice 'silk' type cachet depicting the Chalon portrait centenary sheet. Issued 3rd May 1990.

Today's returns from the Special Handstamp Centre, Commemorating the Queen's Jubilee dated 1 June 2022 and Trooping the Colour, 2 June 2022. The additional use of the machin stamps on the covers is to bring the postage up to the 2nd class value (in fact it was a penny more) as that is the minimum value required for the GB Royal mail to apply the requested postmark. The Berlin Airlift 1948/1949 To commemorate this event, a booklet pane with a large label was issued. Postmarked for 12th May 1999 Brize Norton Carterton. Although not a postage stamp, the large format allowed for a spectacular depiction. A Royal Mail/Royal Mint cover with a medallion.

I was in London in 2007 and walking in Strand Street I found The Stamp Centre market, a nice place with a very friendly sell man surrounded by many stamp albums. He was very interested in catching my attention in a cover that he held in his hand, “our work”, he said showing the Steve Scott FDC. I didn’t understand anything and neither ask about “his work”, because, I was amazed by the thematic of the cover. “The Beatles” is one of my major referents bands and these stamps show with a beautiful design, one of the most important albums of their discography. The series commemorates the 50 years of the Paul and John meeting in Liverpool, and the first performances of the Quarry Men together.
Now, I have a special interest in this kind of Britain FDC. I have seen that is very common that organizations or philatelic houses in GB, release it and launch very creative covers on the first day, such as Benham or Phil Stamps. I don't know if there are other countries that do the same, only know about the official FDC's of the traditional postal mail. In TSF I have seen posts with some GB "private" FDC's very interesting. In the case of Steven Scott, I have found five different FDC's for the same "The Beatles" (2007) stamps launching, one of them is my "alternative" cover. There is an official "standard" cover, and four "alternatives" (30 copies each), but, the problem is that they are not enumerated!!
Anyway, I appreciate the dedication and grueling of this kind of FDC's, such as the cover design and the postmark.

Coming Soon - 7 July 2022 Model for Heroes Fifth Year of Operation Models for Heroes (M4H) exists for those who sacrifice their health to improve and protect our lives. They do this by simply offering them the joy of model making. M4H is the first charitable organisation in the UK to support the use of model making hobbies with former and current Armed Forces and Emergency Service Personnel in the United Kingdom. 2022 sees the 5th year of its operation and to mark this BFPS, in cooperation with M4H, will be publishing a commemorative cover to be issued on the 7th of July 2022. The cover bears images of models and the M4H logo. A Royal Mail 1st Class commemorative stamp depicting a Hurricane aircraft was chosen for the cover to reflect the model making theme. This will be cancelled by a bespoke BFPS special handstamp numbered 3240. Two versions of the cover will be available: a standard unsigned version (£8) plus a signed and numbered limited edition (£16.00). The latter will be signed by Al Murray, Comedian, Historian, and model maker. All covers include an information insert and will be presented in a protective cellophane sleeve making a very collectable souvenir of M4H’s 5th year. Visit the BFPS website where these covers will soon be showing to purchase. Geoff (GBCC) www.gbcovercollector.co.uk
