And it's the Avery Heavy Duty Frame View 3 ring binder with 1" rings. They make these binders in 1", 1½", 2" and 3" rings.
The binder has a nice thick cover and sides. Has a view window on the front and side that's easy to load paper into. And it has D rings with ball and socket closures. Here are some pictures.
I can't take credit for discovering these. It was someone on SCF that pointed them out. When i find the post, I will give proper credit.
I had to order the binders from Amazon, because I couldn't find any place that had these in stock. The 1" binders are $8.39 each on Amazon. The 1½" are $8.99. The 2" are $11.49 and the 3" are $17.50. Prices vary by color also, which are Black, Blue and White.
I'm really happy with these binders.

Been using that binder for years. They take the abuse of my many moves really well. Ans I love the smoothness of the opening/closing mechanism.

I checked Amazon Canada. Lots of colours, but if you want anything other than black, the doubles!
And... this item cannot ship to post office boxes. My physical address isn't in Canada Post's database of addresses, so no hope in me getting any of these. I'll have to get a passport, drive to a bricks & mortar Amazon store (they are out there, right?) and pick them up in person! But I can't do that with the pandemic still active, the border is closed. Oh oh, but this is essential!
Some day, maybe the office supply store of Staples has them.
Yay, Staples has them and I can have them shipped to the store. It's a bit of a drive, but I can do other things while in Belleville when I go to pick them up, AND their prices don't jump idiotically for other colours like Amazon's does! Double yay!

I was about to post that Staples has them as a special item. I really like the blue ones. I wish they came in more colors. I had been color coding my binders based on country: blue for US, yellow for Ukraine, and green for Ireland. But with these, I think I am going to go all blue and just put the country's flag on the spine for easy on-the-shelf identification.

Look nice. I have some Avery Heavy Duty with the standard rings and they have held up well but these are a good step up.

Hey there Andy Pastuszak, a question about the avery binders. Are they large enough for a standard page and sheet protectors? In the pictures you shared it looks like the pages are bigger than the binder. But that could be the angle of the photo, oversized pages, etc. etc. I like to use sheet protectors and I've had some cheapo binders be narrower than the protectors. Would be surprised that a heavy duty binder would be too small, but thought I would check with you.

The sheet protectors are pretty close to flush with the edge of the binder. I'll post some pictures in a little bit.

Ok, I tried the Staples sheet protectors, and they fit exactly to the edge of the binder. I bought some Avery Quick Load sheet protectors, and they stick out past the binder by about an ⅛ of an inch. Need to find slimmer sheet protectors.

I use Gemex? I don't have the box top anymore. The first ones that I could get were matte finished, but the new office supply store has clear ones. Made in Canada, eh.

I wish I could get samples of this stuff, so I don't keep buying a 50 pack and returning it.

I have been looking for compressor bars to fit US 3 ring binders. This is a spring loaded bar that fits around the rings to hold the pages in place and are typically included as standard with European lever arch files.
I haven't had much like finding any from the usual suspects such as Amazon, Staples etc. so I was wondering if perhaps they have a different name in North America and I am searching for the wrong term. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Clive

Thanks for the offer, but since I can't buy them, use the cost of shipping to buy yourself some more stamps.

I've been using these, except mine don't have the frame view. I have six or seven of the 3" binders for my coin collection. Very sturdy and super easy to open.

If you live anywhere near a Goodwill, Salvation Army or other thrift store, you should look there for your binders. They sometimes have them brand new and sell them for about $1 each.
I have been on the hunt for some of the 5.5" by 8.5" variety to hold my Precancel catalogs (I'm not willing to pay $10-$15 each for them). Got lucky over the weekend and found one that looked like new - it was on sale for $.18.

I am taking a good look at the Avery heavy duty binders right now. Over the years I have accumulated many used binders from my employer that would have been thrown away. A very cheap way of getting binders but many of them are simply falling apart. I also would like to have a more consistent look to my collection than the variety of colors, sizes and broken-down look it has now. Single binders sell, on average, for .50c to $1.00 cheaper at our local chain supermarket than on Amazon.

One warning about vinyl binders: laser printer toner will stick to vinyl and come off the page over time. If you're printing album pages on a laser printer like I am, I recommend either:
1. Put a blank piece of paper in the front and back of your album 2. Print the front and back pages with an inkjet printer 3. Use sheet protectors.
As much as I would really like to print everything on an inkjet printer, I find that the thicker paper I prefer to use will cause bleeding on inkjet printers. Laser printers don't have that problem. Years ago I had an Epson printer that used pigment-based inks. That printer was wonderful. You could print on any paper you wanted and it was always crisp and sharp. But it broke 3 times under warranty and then died once outside of warranty, so I took it to my local eWaste center.
Right now I have a color Brother inkjet printer and this thing has been rock solid. Just change the toner with generic cheap toner, and it prints like a champ.

Did you mean inkjet or laser? Toner is associated with laser printers.
In my albums. I put the country title page in a protective sleeve (page size protectors so almost same size as printed page) so these are usually the first page of the album and then a blank page in a protective sleeve as the last page.

No worries. I really like laser printers. No ink to dry out or heads to get messed up. The drum/corona last wear out due to cycle not age.

Instead of starting a new topic, I thought I would jump in on this one. Does anyone know of a cost-effective 3 ring binder for holding 9 x 12 pages? While adding the latest supplement to my Phoenix album I realized I needed to split the contents. I am temporarily using a Photo Album binder but I would like a proper binder.
I would buy an extra Phoenix binder but they are out of stock and were supposed to be available in the fall but are still showing as not in stock.
As I am in the great white north (especially today) I am hoping for something I can get in Canada.

I checked out the Vario Binders and was hoping to find something a little cheaper. If I can't find anything else I might just have to get Vario's. The real shame is I found some decent 2.5" binders at Dollarama (a Canadian dollar store), but about 5 mm of the top and bottom of the pages project out of them.
All the best,

We R Memory Keepers (I think that's the name) make a larger-sized binder that's available on Amazon. They're very well made.

Buy mine at Staples Canada and they are cheap, depending on the "model" but cheaper than buying online....at least you get to see and measure what you need - I have many, some I like and others I did not figure before buying (c'est la vie/it is life) !!
