I'm a pretty big font nerd. And I have been since I got a Macintosh Plus in 1986 and was able to install fonts and experiment with them.
I've always been a fan of the font Helvetica, and always fall on the Helvetica side of the Helvetica vs Arial debate. A number of years ago, a new digital typeface came out called Neue Haas Grotesk. Neue Haas Grotesk was the original name for Helvetica, before it was digitized for typesetting machines. The author of the font claimed that Helvetica "lost something" when it was converted to digital, and Neue Haas Grotesk was an attempt to bring Helvetica "back to its roots."
Being a font nerd, I immediately bought the font and tried it out. And, to my eyes, it was an improvement over Helvetica. But it just didn't look as good on inkjet as it did on laser printer. And that always bothered me.
So, today, as I am testing various paper types, I looked up Helvetica on Wikipedia and saw a section on it's variants. One of of the variants was called Helvetica Neue. The font was made in 1983, and here is what Wikipedia had to say about it:
I liked the idea of improved legibility. So, I thought i would give it a shot. For some reason I already had the font, so I saved a few bucks there.
I converted my 1999 Tryzub Ukrainian album supplement to Helvetica Neue, and printed out the first page on Neenah cardstock on my Epsom ET-2750. And they weren't kidding. This font looks amazingly crisp and clear printing on inkjet paper compared to Neue Haas Grotesk, at least to my eyes.
This has taught me that the legibility of fonts can vary depending on printer.
It might be a good idea to make a test sheet with all the fonts you have installed that you might want to use and see what they look like on your paper with your printer before you settle on a font.

Oh ya, I like Helvetica Neue over Helvetica. Apple included it some years ago now, and defaults to that font for most through most, if not all of their apps. I always use Neue when choosing Helvetica. But I do like a serif font, and Cochin (Apple included) and Cartier Book Pro are nice serif fonts that I always go to. As far as monospaced fonts go, I love Jet Brains Mono.
Arial, also Apple included, is avoided at all costs.

He told me the design goal for Arial was to make a sans serif font that was as boring as possible. They succeeded. I like the look of Franklin Gothic too.

I would never be offended by these types of changes....but, then again, if you switched to comic sans, all bets are off...lol.

as long as I can read it, it's all good. My preferred font is Calibri, which is what I use most for the pages I layout for whatever I'm collecting
