I seen this on an auction site and had to have it for the price. I always enjoyed the "PAID" cancels and now I have on on cover! It also wears a postage due stamp too although I haven't had much time to do any research on everything but I'll post it as I go.

Thank you! I recently received a little background on the sender and receiver as well as the franking and dues but it will be a little bit until I get around to posting it.

I believe that your paid marking is what George W. Linn categorized as a "PAID IN OVAL TYPE I" in his book The PAID Markings on the 3c U.S. Stamp of 1861 published in 1955.
A portion of Linn's description follows:
Linn identified and classified 107 different cancelling stamps of the PAID variety as having been used on the 3c stamp of 1861.
