Are the Weiden postmarks from your hometown? I remember you saying you were from near Nuremberg ...

Ryan Weiden is not far from Nuremberg that is correct. If you have a subscription for new issued stamps from the German postal service, you will receive the stamps from a central mailing office. One of them is Weiden in der Oberpfalz. I think others are in Frankfurt and Berlin, but I'am not sure. I myself have no subscription. They are from my father. Honestly, I like stamps on covers much more than stamps with cancels from the central mailing office. Cara

Well, as I said, I like those stamps, as canceled! I take it you don't, but don't begrudge me my likes.

Don, what I wanted to say was: are you aware that those are c.t.o. cancellations ?
I personally do not mind c.t.o. stamps from countries, where postally used ones hardly do exist at all. Laos,Cambodia,Liechtenstein f.i. When I bought a Germany collection with the stamps of the last twenty years,I found many c.t.o. I would not really mind too much,if the were not often so heavy, that they obscure the stamps´designs.
As it has become impossible to collect used (german) stamps from the mail,I will take in future new issues as mint.
But there is another problem: you cannot buy single stamps any more, but have to take complete sheets of ten. That is,if you can find them in a post-shop.(There are no more post-offices,since Deutsche Post was privatized) Berlin and Frankfurt mail-order centres were closed.I do not know when this happened. There were 21 philatelic sales points all over Germany.I say were, because they will be closed on March 31st. Most of them will be reopened again,in a different form. Of course you still can order stamps even as singles in Weiden, the last remaining philatelic sale centre. At least sort of: you can get stamps with water-activated gum per one.Self-adhesive stamps however are sold in booklets or coils only. There is only one way to get all on a per one base, unless you give a standing order, you can buy compositions of each quarter.
Weiden offers an enormous range of "philatelic products".I would call them "philatelic trash".
In general the less the letter mail is used, the more stamps are issued. They have now reached the € 100.- range a year. Whar I really hate are stamps like this one:
Horrible design, outrageous high face value. It pays the postage for letters to foreign destinations with a weight exceeding 50 g up till 500 g. Why not to issue a stamp for foreign mail letters up to 2000 g ? This would be € 17.-. Maybe a version with water-activated gum and another as self-adhesive.
No wonder that they sell not many more of each stamp nowadays, than in the 1950th,when people had to cope to feed themselves and could not afford to buy stamps just for pleasure.

In an offer booklet of one of the mayor stamp-dealers in Germany,I found this offer:
I guess in the US they would call it a badly centered specimen. Here in Germany centering is not a common problem,so the above stamp is offered as a rarity. Michel-cat. for a common perfectly centered stamp is € 2.50.

I like definitive stamps. The set shown is made by CTO stamps, which i usually don't like, but this time i don't agree with salentin. For this kind of stamps, to find a postally used stamp should not be difficult, so the genuine cancel instead of a CTO doen't give an added value. The set is clean, the cancels nice, the whole is equilibrated and nice looking. As for the last stamp, i'm not so into the german market to tell if the price is right or not. In Italy there is a minimum displacement of the perforation (something like 2 mm) which makes the difference between a miscentred (let's say, a second quality stamp) and a nice perforation variety. I think we're closer to the perforation variety, even if seems to me a bit expansive... What the Michel says about it?

Michel calls "Verzähnungen" (decentered stamps or misaligned perforations) "Zufälligkeiten" (accidental errors, fortuitousnesses), what are never catalogized. As spectacular mis-perforations are so diverse,it would be simply impossible to list them all. But of course they are collectible and an command good prices. If they find a buyer for that poorly centered stamp,then... why not ?

Berlin Famous Women series, issued from 1986 to 1989 SG B732-748 SC 9N516-532. I do not collect stamps from Germany but find this particular series very attractive.
