French Horn and Violin SODRE is an Uruguayan arts and entertainment organization created by law in 1931 to broadcast entertainment and information programming over the radio waves. As programming was in short supply, in those years, the law also provided for the creation of various cultural arts organizations such as a symphony orchestra and, shown on these stamps the Youth Orchestra. I haven't been able to nail down when the Youth Orchestra was formed, but today it stands in high regard, bringing education and opportunity to young musicians. Uruguay, Scott Nr 2446 (2013)

The banjo may not be an instrument that comes to mind when you think of traditional Slovenian folk music, and, in fact, it is not a traditional instrument. However, this stamp is from a series, "Slovenes Around the World," and the inscription on this stamps reads, "Slovenes in the United States of America." Now it all becomes clear. "The Vadnals" were a polka band, made up of several members of the Slovenian Vadnal family. They were based in Cleveland, and were popular in the 1950s. Their intent was to blend American musical influences into their traditional Slovenian polkas. Thus the introduction of the banjo, and the Cleveland-style polka was born. The accordion shown is a Steirische Harmonika, developed in the Austrian state of Styria. It is marked by a right-hand button keyboard. It is a bisonoric accordion, meaning that each button on the right-hand keyboard plays two different notes, depending on if the bellows are pulled open or pushed closed. The left-hand bass side is also notable for the horns on either end of the keyboard which help produce louder and richer bass notes.

Here are 3 cards with accordion postmarks: Just as the Little Mermaid is the symbolic figure of Copenhagen, Hein Mück symbolizes the city of Bremerhaven. He is based on a real-life figure of the mid 1800s, though there is some dispute over who it actually is. The CDS on this card touts the city of Klingenthal as a winter sports haven and the city of music. This postmark calls attention to the Socialist Press Festival, in Erfurt, in 1963.
