Scott Catalog notes that there are three shades of this stamp. It does not list a variety with two shades on the same stamp. Is this variety listed in SG or elsewhere?

Great, now I need to go back through them to check for all the varieties. LOL Thanks for the help daniel. I will be adding this website to my favorites for future use.

They are all used (been soaked) so that adds a complication. The left one looks faded overall (overprint, etc). It is easier to make an opinion on stamps one does not own when wondering if one has some variety. I have a similar issue in the same series that I set aside as a possible shade variety.

The Commonwealth Catalogue lists a number of varieties for this stamp. There were even more printings, so it is not unusual to find a number of color shades. Here is a scan of these issues from my collection so you can see what to look for in this issue.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

This is probably nothing but the hand written cancel on top of a faint obliteration intrigued me. I was thinking that it may have been a revenue use or maybe it was added at a remote postal station. I have seen a few other Straits Settlements stamps listed on line with writing on them but no reason given.
