Hello everyone,
Happy to be a new member here on the Stamp Forum. I have been collecting since I was in elementary school in the 1970s. My first job, in fact, was working at one of those old time philately stores called The Stamp Chest in Arlington, VA in the early 1980s. I've always collected world stamps, but with a special interest in British Empire and other colonials, as well as wartime and military occupation stamps. Philately was a direct inspiration to my love of geography and history, and so I eventually got my Ph.D. in British history and have become a professional historian. I'm now chief historian of the National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington, TX. Thanks to my good friend Will Ross for introducing me to the Stamp Forum, and I look forward to participating!

Welcome! I was trained in historical sociology, which has shaped my approaches to collecting. I have wondered if I could use the data I have literally collected for an academic paper.

Welcome. I was a grad student at Ohio State working on my history degrees. MA 1996 and was PhD candidate but burned out on academia and did not finish the dissertation. Specialization was Islamic history with focus on late Ottoman and Republican Turkish history.

yes, stamp collecting is really an interesting hobby, because you do not just collect the stamps, but you can also learn a lot of things beyond. Congratulations to you, ed, for your success.
