I wasn't sure what to call this post, but the cover shown arrived today with a HARTFORD inkjet postmark without obliterations. Elsewhere and earlier a member described this postmark as one used on machines which processed metered mail and other letters with older stamps that lacked proper "tagging" (my low-tech description).
It appears that the sender soaked/scrubbed a skip or near skip and reused it, applying with perhaps a glue stick. The stamp still has a bit of paper adhering to the top left and faint ink spots are evident which may indicate previous use.
I find things like this nearly fascinating as examples of what really modern postal history has to offer.

Reused stamp, postal machine date stamp ( not a cancel!) and no marker monkey. ! Interesting the stuff that gets through. We may gripe about deficiencies in the postal system when they happen , but I am always impressed a) we still have a working post ( anglobob in Ecuador does not. b) most of the time it works efficiently c) Royal Mail aims to deliver UK letters here next day and achieves it over 90% of the time if my eBay feedback correspondents are correct. Of course in a huge world wide distribution things can go wrong , but let’s give due credit for all the things that go right. Today 18 Aug , for example I got a package mailed from Moniefieth , a small village outside Dundee , date stamped 17 Aug . Now that was counter date stamped at hand over as the sender wanted proof of posting. It then travelled to the main sorting facilities at Dundee for the bag onward to Aberdeen where it was sorted to my postman’s walk and delivered at 10.30 next day , having probably been handled by up to half a dozen people on the way. Efficient !
