Bought today, the first two general French Colonies issues, which complete my set of this series (6 stamps in total): Note that the second stamp has the second 5c marking inside some faint parentheses. A much more expensive variety exists in which those parentheses are missing.

Since I see that the other issues of the set have not yet been shown, and they are rather uncommon, here they are:

This was among the stamps in a stock book received today. I didn't find a great deal of information on it (I do not collect the colonies), but it looks to be a 1944 general use stamp 10F + 40F Aviation Mutual Aid

The context is completely different though. The early French Colonies are basically forerunners, enlivened by the postmarks that hint at which colony a stamp came from. The 1940s semipostals are closer in spirit with the omnibus sets.

What I collect: I collect world wide up to 1965 with several specialty albums added due to volume of material I have acquired. At this point I am focused on Canada and British America. I am always on the lookout for stamps and covers with postmarks from communities in Queens County, Nova Scotia. I do list various goods including stamps occasionally on eBay as hdm50

I seldom (and I do mean seldom) use Scott catalogues... I do have several, but for the most part, they take up space! thank you both for clarifying!

greaden Fr Colonies 40c after Peroxide Rx René I think it still looks oxidized, but improved over the first scan. I have not yet tried peroxide as a solution to this sort of problem, so I am paying close attention here.

Thanks for the tag, René ( renden). I agree that this last one you treated appears to be sulfuretted and marginally improved by a peroxide soak. How can I help?

Thanks for your additional response, René ( renden). Just to be sure that I have not misunderstood anything, please tell me the process you have used for the peroxide soaks. Is it the same one as described in my recent Cape Triangles article? That process, which is 3% solution straight from a fresh bottle for 1 minute came to me from Jim Jackson ( jkjblue). He used it with good effect on discolored 4d blue Cape Triangles. greaden: if you would like to see more about using peroxide to reverse the effects of sulfuretting, you should have a look through the Cape Triangles thread, or I can send you a copy of my article, which describes the process and shows examples of results. Please PM me your email address if you would like a copy of the article.

Thanks for confirming, René ( renden). In that case, I would just leave the stamp as it is, unless you want to try treating it again. My opinion is that if two soaks have only improved it slightly, then it’s probably better just to leave it. Just for added info, I also tried a peroxide soak on an orange French Ceres issue that was turned brown by sulfuretting, not unlike your example. Also like yours, a peroxide soak made only a slight improvement to it. At some point I will post before-and-after images so that you can see for yourself. What I can say is that while peroxide soaks often work to improve stamps discolored by sulfuretting, it isn’t a 100% success rate. Perhaps the discolored French orange stamps are an exception for this treatment.

Neat stamp to study. I had to create a 1200 dpi scan of the YT 5 I have just to check. The clue around forgeries is in the crown point and the background of the eagle.
My first scan was of lower quality, and when I went to review, was sure I had a forgery, but no, it's a matter of getting the DPI cranked up enough to see the background lines behind the Eagle fill in.
Album Weeds has the details.

Napoleon III 1c EMPIRE FRANÇAIS Imperforate Issue ID Confirmed as French ColoniesBelow is the image of a stamp that I bought when I was living in France in 2018-2019. I don't recall much about the acquisition, except that I got it from the same dealer from whom I bought most of my stamps at the Saturday market in Aix-en-Provence. Imagine my surprise when I went to look this stamp up in the catalogue a year or so ago, and I noticed that this issue is normally supposed to be perforated. Edit: Thanks to xacs and hrdoktorx, this stamp is now confirmed as a French Colonies issue rather than France. French Colonies, Sc7 1c Olive Green Thanks again to those who responded quickly to help me with correct ID of this stamp as French Colonies instead of France.

No expert on these at all but French Colonies issues sometimes trip me up with imperf issues of stamps at same period. Not sure how to tell the difference then to the above referenced Rothschild re-issues if they are also imperf. But could just be a Colonies issue.
