Whilst working through my Machins today I was about to discard one of the 4d stamps on the scan. Deciding to check it I found that the Queen's earing was missing, in its place just a black circle. I have never come across this particular flaw before. Has anyone else? The flaw is on the stamp at right & is a Questa printing 13th May 1986. S.G.UG14/X1002

It seems forever that I've been working on identifying Machins from the 5 albums I won @ auction on the 9th of last month. Almost a week now identifying the 2 & 1/2p magenta's when this block appeared on the last page to be done. A massive amount of flaws just on a block of 9 stamps.

The new bar coded stamps are already yielding some nice flaws. The following scans are of some of the stamps I received from Royal mail for their swap out scheme. Seen under 45x magnification.

obviously I'm missing something drblade - the images I'm seeing here don't look to be x45 ?? - something more like x4 - x6 perhaps.

I appreciate they may not be visible on the scans, hence the labels. I wouldn't know how to enlarge the actual scans, except on my computer, before upload.

A couple of days ago one of my neighbours gave me 20 sheets of the new bar-coded Q.E.II 1p values stamps. He had received them from Royal Mail in lieu of the stamps he sent on their swap out scheme. I gave them a cursory 1 hour check over for flaws using a hand held magnifying glass. I was astounded at the amount of flaws on almost every stamps of the sheets many of which could be easily seen with the naked eye. Many had a variety of dr blade flaws in numerous different positions. The most prolific flaws looked like missing blue ink areas, dots, specks & large missing areas of print, particularly across row 3. This could be due to a malfunctioning anti-static part of the print process. I am not an expert about many different types of flaws but the amount of dust/debris collectively causing such large white flaws seems more likely to be mesh damage? I believe the current printers of these stamps have recently installed new extremely highly technical machines to carry out the printing processes, so why so many flaws over a large area of different stamps. Check out line 3 on the scanned sheet. The wide ranging "blue" lines are only able to be seen with a magnifying glass but believe me they exist.

All 20 sheets have similar flaws with lots of blue lines running horizontally across the stamps in different positions on the sheets.

Thanks for your reply Ryan I tried to "enlarge" the scan before posting without success. Yes, it can be a bit tricky to get zoomed-in looks at large images - the TSF board software will auto-scale any large image down to a maximum of the screen width (at least on desktops, I don't know what happens on a phone). So, I clicked on the link in your image to go to the ibb.co image host, but they also limit image size to the maximum of the screen width. So, I right-clicked on the image and chose "Open image in new tab" - when I click on that I can toggle between an image limited by screen width and a full-sized image. From there I did a screen capture snip of a full-sized image and then posted that, hopefully saving a few other interested readers from jumping through the same hoops in the same order just to be able to see the picture!
