I came across this in a box of personal philatelic items, a FDC for the 1973 Christmas duo (UR corner) with all the previous US Christmas stamp issues that I made for myself that year.
The "cachet" was an unused envelope intended for the USPS postal people issue.
Only 48 years ago - my how time skedaddles when one's not paying attention.

How did the postal clerks apply the cancels without the killer bars, i.e. the cancels to the left of and below the first day of issue cancel? Did they use a hand stamp without the killer bars and FDC slogan?
