In 1986, France issued a series of 10 stamps entitled "La Cinémathèque française" (The French Cinematheque) to commemorate the 50th anniversary of French Cinema. Each stamp represents a different director / actor and movie:

In 1998, another actor / actress series was issued in France.

August Bournonville (1805 - 1879) was a Danish ballet master and choreographer. He was born and died in Copenhagen. This Danish stamp was issued in 2005 on the occasion of his birth centenary.

Jean Vilar (1912 - 1971) was a French actor (for both theatre and film), stage director, and theatre director. Here is the stamp issued in 2001 in France in honour of him:

In 2021, France issued a stamp to commemorate the centenary of the release of Charlie Chaplin's comedy-drama film The Kid (1921).



Chaplin's native Great Britain has hitherto issued to stamps of him. Here is the one issued in 1999 as part of the 'Millennium Series 6 - The Entertainers' Tale':



The other three stamps feature Freddie Mercury (lead singer of Queen), Bobby Moore with World Cup, and Dalek from Dr. Who.

In 2018, Great Britain issued two sets of commemorative stamps for the Harry Potter films series (not the novel) picturing characters from the movies.

In 2020, Great Britain issued a set of 6 stamps showing characters from BBC series, Sherlock, including: Sherlock Holmes, Doctor John Watson, Jim Moriarty, Irene Adler, Mary Morstan, and Mycroft Holmes.

Performing Arts refers to art that is performed before an audience such as drama, dance or music. It does not include Cinema. W. C. Fields performed in Vaudeville, Douglas Fairbanks appeared in Theatre and so qualify as Performing Artists on those counts.

Perhaps Cinema and TV could be spun off into their own thread or the title expanded to include Cinema and TV?

It's a fair point, daniel. USPS skirted this question by largely choosing entertainers who began their careers on the stage before launching very celebrated second acts on the big screen — like Fields and Fairbanks, along with the Barrymore family, Will Rogers, etc. - for the series that this thread was named after. I suspect the distinction was lost on many. I'll update the name of this thread for clarity!

One of the souvenir sheets in Canada's "The Millennium Collection" is called "Canada's Cultural Fabric". Of the 4 stamps it contains one celebrates Halifax's Neptune Theatre, a professional theatre company that performs new and classical plays; and one celebrates Ontario's Stratford Festival that specialises in showcasing the works of William Shakespeare.




Another sheets, "Fostering Canadian Talent", includes 4 stamps showcasing 4 art/culture related institutions, two of them I think fit this thread. The first celebrates National Film Board (NFB, or ONF in French), Canada's public film and digital media producer and distributor who has funded since its inception numerous Canadian films, documentaries, and animations. The second celebrates Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) for its contributions to radio and television networks.



In 2014, Post Canada issued a set of 5 stamps to commemorate the 75th anniversary of NFB / ONF, which showcase:

(1) Cynthia Scott’s Flamenco at 5:15 (1983);
(2) Gerald Potterton's The Railrodder (1965);
(3) Claude Jutra’s Mon oncle Antoine (1971);
(4) John Weldon’s animated Log Driver’s Waltz (1979);
(5) Norman McLaren’s Neighbours (1952);



Fun fact: NFB / ONF's headquarter in Montreal has since 2019 moved to Ilot Balmoral in Montreal's Quartier des spectacles where annuel music shows and festivals are held, sharing the same building with my alma mater NAD-UQAC.

In 2006 and 2008, Canada Post issued two sets of 4 stamps celebrating the achievements of Canadians in Hollywood.

The first series of stamps features John Candy (1950-1994), Fay Wray (1907 - 2004), Lorne Greene (1915 - 1987) and Mary Pickford (1892 - 1979).



The second series of stamps feature Marie Dressler (1868 - 1934), Raymond Burr (1917 - 1993), Norma Shearer (1902 - 1983), and Chief Dan George (1899 - 1981).
