One of the items I bought from the APS Stamp Store was this series of souvenir sheets, celebrating Columbus' Voyages from 1492. I was surprised at just how small they are! I figured they'd be about the same size as the Bicentennial souvenir sheets - those were huge!
Still, with the original envelope, they are a sight to behold.

Columbus ia persona non grata in Chicago. The city has removed all the statues of him. The Italians are outraged.

Did they rename North/South Columbus Drive???
Doesn't matter. I just hope they don't plan on removing all stamps that depict Columbus or force stamp collectors to obliterate his face/name on any stamps in their collections!

They were packaged in the small, but very nice envelope below, which brightonpete previously showed. I have not noticed any envelope varieties, unlike the Bicentennial S/S envelope which did have envelope varieties.

A white cardstock was used as a stiffener. Also enclosed was a pamphlet on the National Postal Museum. The front side of the pamphlet is shown below.

Unlike the US S/S set, each S/S in the Spanish set only contains 1 stamp, even though it looks like more. Spain #2677(22May1992), Columbus discovers America, 500th anniversary. 2011 Scott catalog mint = $1.25

I'll have them soon enough - more to buy! I just received my latest APS order yesterday, now submitting another one.
Thanks khj for alerting me to these foreign issues!

Hehe, there are other 500th anniversary Columbus S/S's. I only mentioned the ones that were part of the joint issue with the US.
I didn't scan them all in the past. If you want to spend more money later on, let me know and I'll be more than happy to post some of the ones I did scan -- assuming I can find the pics.

I didn't not know, but I should have guessed, that there was a joint issue with other countries. I like this set a lot. I picked up a used set not long ago, so I'm not sure that i have the envelope. Beautiful stamps!

As may be expected. Seems like statues are always outraging someone these days.

Not part of the joint issue, other nations also issued S/S's commemorating the 500th anniversary of the Columbus voyage. Here is the series from the Bahamas. Like the joint issue, the S/S's are small -- in fact, even smaller than the US issue. The smallest ones are almost the size of those large painting stamps you see from some of the European countries or Trucial States. It is a series of 6 (issued individually over a couple of years, instead of as a set all at once). Regrettably, I'm missing the 6th one. Bahamas #644(23Feb1988), map, Columbus discovers America, 500th anniversary. 2013 Scott catalog mint = $12
