I use the insert image and it shows in my preview but when I post it disappears. I need some help on this one.

I presume you have successfully done so in the past? If so, I wonder if the board change to restrict direct image downloading is somehow affecting this? I just direct posted 4 images today and had no problem. I love your avatar by the way.

You'll probably be more successful if you use an outside carrier for you images. I use this one: LINK ...it's free!

Just to eliminate the obvious did you "insert" your image into your post after you uploaded it? I've missed that a few times myself.

I think the board software might be buggy. I had some problems while posting inline links (images stored elsewhere) to the Danish Xmas seals thread - I inserted 5 images, all of which showed up when previewing the post, but after I posted it only 3 of the images were present, the code for the other 2 images had disappeared somehow. I lost an image once using the board's attachment button as well. I've been confirming the BBCode before posting whenever I have more than one image per post now. That's kind of like computer programming, it won't be to everybody's taste to do this, so it's not a very good universal solution, although there are plenty of boards (such as SCF) which force all posting to be done using code like the BBCode used here, requiring a separate preview step to see what you will get.
One thing I did notice is that the board software will tweak the image BBCode a bit, adding some code to make certain that large images don't exceed the width of the screen. Perhaps it manages to lose image code altogether sometimes when it makes this tweak, I don't know.

stampgeezer- yes they were inserted before posting and also did the same thing when reposting using the edit function
Perfs14- I use photobucket to post, does the forum support any way to get images direct from our own computer?
Ryan- This is exactly what is happening to me. Is it maybe because of size, which doesn't make sense either since using another site like photobucket to store them.
Anyone else have a handle on this one?
Now I am completely lost. The following image is just one I am trying to post in the Airmail A Countries and it will not. But tested posting here and it shows up no problem. What is going on!
[MODERATOR EDIT: Image is no longer available and the broken link has been removed.]

Since our photos are of similar pages, your 1960 and mine 1930 copyright, and since I also use photoshop, I suspect that page size is at issue in uploading. When I tried to upload seven pages, all appearing on the preview page, only four appeared in the post. So, I added a second post with the ones that had be elided. The omitted pages were random, taken somewhere out of the middle of my posting rather than from either end. I thought I might try cropping the page size for the next batch I post, showing as little as possible of the unused white space. In any case, the problem is likely not our computers or the way we're trying to upload -- this surmise contingent on advice to the contrary from the administrator.

Stolzpup- You hit the nail on the head. I have tried multiple was to get them in one post but it just won't happen. So I added another reply to the post and no problem with the image coming up So definitely no problem with our pics it is now in Admin court as how they have posts limited.

I have no trouble posting pics from my Computer or Photobucket. What is this about inserting images before posting ?? If anyone is using Photobucket, just copy the bottom link and paste it into your comment. No need for anything else. Mac, I see you managed the 'A' page ! What did you do differently ? Londonbus1

Londonbus- It just refuses to post the other pages. I have about 7 more to add to the post but it will not let them. But if I post in a new reply to the thread no problem.
Alright just added the url by directly copying it and pasting to the thread like London bus stated and it worked so-

Congrats !! Copied from the 'A' thread. "Someone mentioned cropping ? it is always best to crop as much of the unwanted borders as possible when scanning.. The stamps will show up much better and the posts/thread will look much more interesting and colourful. Too much white [or black] tends to give an overall appearance of waste paper [for want of a better phrase ! ]. Try it and you will see the difference. Londonbus1" With a topic like this, or similar, you do not need to post so many pages [pics] in one post. You can spread them out over many pages. When I posted to the 'E' thread, for example, my Egypt issues were one to a post. Londonbus1...Great airmails by the way !!

Ryan- This is exactly what is happening to me. Is it maybe because of size, which doesn't make sense either since using another site like photobucket to store them. No, that can't be the problem. When we're using inline linking (your message has a link to the photobucket address, it doesn't have the image itself), all we're sending is a string of characters for the URL (web address). Regardless of whether your image is 2 pixels x 2 pixels or 20000 pixels by 20000 pixels, your message here on the board is still only 80 characters long or so, however long the URL is plus the little bit of code that marks it as an image. I think it must be a bug in the what-you-see-is-what-you-get editor that gives you a preview of your message. Before I post a message with an image, I switch to the BBCode mode to look at the code contained in the message, and I make sure it has the codes for the images I want to include. Then I'll create the post while I'm still in BBCode mode - that should stop whatever bug there might be in the Preview mode. Since I've done that, I haven't lost any images in my posts. Note that I still use the Preview mode to compose the message, I don't switch over to the BBCode until I'm ready to post what I've written. When you're in BBCode mode, you no longer see the image, what you see is the computer language that represents "an image goes here and it's located at such and such a URL". It looks like this: [img alt="" src="http://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-1RNYGXDqjNQ/UjcGGDOHMVI/AAAAAAAASj8/xNRii_sZE4Y/w316-h495-no/Grace+Kelly+stamp.jpg" style="max-width:100%;"] What that looks like in a message is this: I know, that's a pain in the neck if you're not a computer programmer type of guy. It's easy enough for me so I don't have a problem with it, but I can imagine it will drive some people batty if they keep posting messages and the images go off into the ether somewhere! Ryan

Bingo!
Used Londonbuss suggestion to do a direct copy and paste of the link and it works. Something buggy going on when you use the insert image button. Admin may want to take a look.

It sounds as if the "problem" is due to the current per-post attachment limit of up to 5 files totaling no more than 1MB (combined).

It shouldn't be that - Mac isn't using the attachment pane for his images, he's using direct linking. When I lost images on the Danish Xmas seals thread, I was also using direct linking, but I do also remember losing an image when using the attachment pane, without coming anywhere close to the 1MB limit. If you are using image hosting you have no limited. Some forums ask not to post more then 1 image per post, but you may post as many images as you want. Members that have access to add attachment (TSF HOSTING) can post up to 5 images once all combine images are under 1mb.

As Jack said just paste the link in the post directly and it solved all my problems. Ryan, I did use direct linking when using the "insert image" button with multiple images and that is where the problems started.
