I think the misspelling is down to my tablet which changes words thinking it knows better! That's my excuse anyway 😁 Now corrected, thanks vikingeck. The creasing (my tablet has just changed this word to dressing!) highlights a major problem that I have. My front door has a very small letterbox which can damage my post if the postman is determined to shove everything through it! Daniel

I wonder of the QR could have been applied with luminescent ink ON the design so it would not detract from design. The GB approach is jyst another step toward a mailing label.

Machin forgeries are a huge problem for Royal Mail and the forgers manage to replicate all of the security features with relative ease. 2D barcode forgeries have already been found! It doesn't help that the technology to read the barcodes probably hasn't yet been installed.

I read an article a couple of weeks ago, (can't remember where, possibly a Deegam report), where it was suggested that the barcode forgeries were not necessarily being produced to defraud Royal Mail but being used to target collectors of forgeries etc. Maybe true maybe not??

The USPS has problems with forgeries too. The USPS has few security features. I have seen address labels from charities that were printed better.

Received this leaflet with yesterday's post. On the reverse, simply complete your name and address and return with eligible stamps to a Freepost address. Just received my leaflet today (18/10/22) so it looks like we are almost 2 weeks behind with their delivery.

A couple of days ago The Guardian had an article tied to the 100-day deadline for use of the old definitives without the barcode: And there's another article with a considerable quota of distress in the opinion section of today's edition, with a name-drop for Muffin the Mule (hooray for Muffin the Mule!): My stash of old stamps is beautiful. Why make them unnecessarily obsolete?Ryan

The date when non-barcoded machins can't be used has been extended by 6 months from 31st January to 31st July. Also, for the first time, forms and freepost envelopes are available from Post Offices.
This follows media pressure that the deadline was too soon and that the forms were only available via the internet and not easily accessible to many pensioners.
It has also been reported that they are having to recruit more staff to cope with the demand. Clearly they misunderstood the response they would get, especially from stamp collectors like me and dealers who have sent them all their unwanted machins!
I recently managed to find enough for the over £200 application and they arrived last week after about 3 weeks.
I now have enough inflation proof 1st and 2nd class stamps to last my lifetime!

I, similarly to michael , traded in a huge pile of older Machins ( £500) in the summer, and even after selling half of these to club members & family at -25% discount of face, I have a good 2-3 years supply of 1st & 2nd class untouched . however I am getting lower in my older postage stock book so need to hunt out someone selling a hinged mint GB decimal collection below face value to replenish stock. Up to now all my eBay sales have gone out plastered with up to half a dozen older Machins and commems .

Received the scanned leaflet in the mail this morning, another reminder by Royal Mail to swap your old stamps by 31 July 2023.

When I see the word scheme it always seems to have negative connotations.

I think that the swap out is a bit of a swizz mainly because the new stamps have already been forged, and it's also a way of getting out of people putting two 1/2p stamps on to make up 1p, I also don't like the way they send out like for like and after sending in £1500 of surplus machin's in left with sheet after sheet of 1p and 2p stamps and with the extra size of them they are difficult to shift 🤔 On the plus side my neighbours are pleased I'm doing 2nd class at 50p and 1at at 80p but I've got to shift hundreds of them.

I hope all those Machin's have been checked for flaws & varieties before they get sent back to Royal Mail, LOL. Wish I had that many to check for my specialist collection.

I can understand the different opinions this scheme has for those that collect machins and those that don't so I can understand your view.
However, as an ex machin collector (stopped in 1999 and then lost interest) it was brilliant for me, a chance to dispose of my excess stock of ordinary stamps and booklets to be replaced with inflation proof stamps. All I have left now are my "windows" booklets and my standard machin 1971 to 1999 collection.
I keep checking my remaining window booklets on Ebay and the prices are rock bottom. For example a 26p x 4, GE1, catalogue £24 ish are being sold around £1 which is approximately face.
So as a matter of interest are the face value of machins from 1971 to 1999 worth more to sell or to exchange for face value?

For an estate, I have recently been asked to sell £1150 face value GB non - Machin commems 2013-2018 , still untouched in the envelopes as purchased fromRoyal Mail, so they don’t qualify for swap out. With inflation the face value of 1st class has almost doubled since 2013 issues. So what can my contact expect to realise for her £1150 inheritance?
Last year before the swap out I was able to sell similar material to a dealer for 50% face with 1st class at 60%. Current offers are around 40-45% with both my prospective buyers telling me they are cutting back, as the market is swamped with Matrix code swap outs. One major dealer suggested he would only pay 1/3 face today. Commercial users can get all the coded stamps they can use and more at bargain prices.

………and it's also a way of getting out of people putting two 1/2p stamps on to make up 1p, don’t see how?if you have all the commems from the 1972- 1980 there are loads of values which include a half penny value… so you can still have paired halfpenny’s.. I also don't like the way they send out like for like and after sending in £1500 of surplus machin's in left with sheet after sheet of 1p and 2p stamps and with the extra size of them they are difficult to shift 🤔 My experience with four swap outs in the past years has certainly not been like for like .
Swap out 1 returned me far in excess of the £500 face and 60% 2nd class and 40% 1st class swap out. 2 I sent 90 mixed rate 5-17p face £13.80 and got 90x 1st class (£96 before the April rate change) swap out. 3 &4 with 90 low face value , £12 and £10each returned a mix mostly 2nd class plus a few 1, 2, 5p to make exact face value match none has been like for like by denomination and only on the recent sendings have they actually matched the total face. The first two returned a huge bonus .On the plus side my neighbours are pleased I'm doing 2nd class at 50p and 1at at 80p but I've got to shift hundreds of them. likewise😀😀😀

I just received the scanned letter this morning along with the mentioned batch of stamps from the "swap out scheme". Just finished checking the stamps for errors/flaws & correct backing papers. 9 of the items were 1st class booklets of 4 which were all "normal" apart from a few minor not worth mentioning specks on the print. I found 3 stamps with good flaws & 3 with backing papers not listed on my Deegam profiles. 1 stamp went straight into my specialist album due to its date print tab. Just the phosphor bands to check now for any irregularities.
