The problem with a lot of African countries is that due to amalgamation and on achieving independence many of the names on some of the older stamps no longer exist, creating a form of 'dead country' issues, and consequently collectors have lost interest due to that fact. Here are several that spring to mind. > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ OLD NAME NEW NAME Gold coast Ghana Lagos Nigeria Tanganyika. Tanzania Transvaal South Africa Northern Rhodesia Zambia S W Africa Namibia Nyasaland Malawi Niger coast Nigeria Zanzibar Tanzania S Rhodesia Zimbabwe ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There are countless others not listed, this also has a tendency to create confusion especially with potentially new collectors and consequently the stamps of the country are likely to be ignored. Here are a couple of stamps I particularly like, that was issued for Niger coast (now Nigeria). The prices for some of these stamps to obtain are ridiculously low when comparing some of the quantities issued. On looking at the Canadian 1897 Jubilee $ issues for prices asked, and in relation to quantities issued, there is no comparison.
