I ordered my sheet of 6 from the usps ebay store. I was kind of surprised to see them on sale today (20th) and not next week.

A bit odd, but I suppose they won't process the orders today, so they won't arrive until after the actual release date. I ordered mine. =) (And another booklet of the seed packets, which are my favorites that are available right now, and some $1 Waves of Color.)

Did you see the whole package they are selling for around $200.00 (U.S.D.). They are selling "proofs" and all kinds of other stuff that in my opinion is way over priced. And what really burns me is that the stamps pay no postal rate at all! My other main "gripe" would be the so called proofs...They aren't truly proofs by traditional standards if they print them to sell now are they? I'm glad you like them were able to get a sheet but that other accoutrements are just overpriced bling in my humble opinion.

ILS - you are correct on all that extra phooey, if I were to spend a couple of hundred, it would not be on that. The 6 stamp sheet is all I wanted.

I agree stampgeezer. It is a very handsome sheet though isn't it? I may pick one (like yours) up myself.

I just bought the little 6-stamp sheet, as well. And I'll be using the stamps. I often send large or bulky envelopes that have to go at the First Class package rate, so I can use these with a couple of older stamps.

Here is the Gross block currently on loan to the Smithsonian's National Postal Museum. I apologize for the poor quality image; it is due to a combination of low lighting in the exhibit area and my use of a video camera. A much better image of the block provided by the NPM for the media.

Thanks, Steve! An excellent post!! I appreciate your going to the trouble and effort to pull this all together. (On another board I read, there was just a typical argument about some detail or another in the ceremony and stamp issuance, and, at a third board, complaints about the formal dress requirements for a donors' reception on the Friday evening prior.)
Much appreciated!!

Yes, thank you for posting, Steve! I'll have to show this post to my girls. My 9-year old always notices images of the Inverted Jenny. "Look, Mom, the upside-down airplane stamp!"

This news release from the USPS provides the rational for enclosing the inverted Jenny sheets in an envelope -- 100 sheets with an upright Jenny were printed and circulated with the inverts.

I wasn't planning on saving the SS, but the more I think about it, the more I'm leaning toward picking up another just to hold onto.

Just think of it as buying a $12 lottery ticket... I think I might have spent $5 on a lottery ticket once, but that was definitely the upper limit!

As Steve noted, the USPS is printing 100 sheets that are not inverted and will be distributed at random. The USPS has no shame! (I sure I hope I can get one).

I see in my latest Linn's that Ideal Stamp and Coin is offering $15,000 for one sheet of the non-inverted inverted Jennys. Should I buy lottery tickets or go to the post office?

I am not buying any more, I had 12 sheets, that's enough gambling for me.

The Ideal Stamp Company Inc. have a bit of a cheek to call this an error. I have sent them an email to show my disgust. A disgraceful advert and the American Philatelist should know better. A con. Londonbus1

Here is mine. The Wifey picked this up for me a couple days ago. (EDIT: that spot between the bottom left stamp and the next one is not on my stamps but the Mylar on the Vario sheet.)

There is a write-up in this week's Linn's Stamp News Weekly Update regarding the sale of an upright Jenny pane to Ideal for $25K. Since that purchase, the Ideal offer for a sheet of the upright Jenny has dropped to $15K.

I see that Bill Gross paid 51,000 for an un-inverted inverted Jenny sheet. Linns articleTheron.

stampgeezer : I'm surprised it wasn't their plan to give it a number from the beginning. They would assign it a number if it were discovered years later, so it seems logical to me. It will be interesting to see what number they assign. If it were a "discovered" invert, it would probably be denoted with the 'a' after the number; i.e. C3a
