This poster stamp is from then-President Richard M. Nixon's 1972 re-election bid during which he defeated Democratic candidate George McGovern by one of the widest margins on record. Within a few months of the election, however, Nixon's administration became embroiled over the so-called "Watergate" scandal, stemming from a break-in at the offices of the Democratic National Committee during the 1972 campaign. As a result of unrelated scandals in Maryland, Vice President Spiro T. Agnew resigned in 1973. Nixon nominated, and Congress approved, House Minority Leader Gerald R. Ford as Vice President. Faced with almost certain impeachment over Watergate, Nixon announced on August 8, 1974, that he would resign the next day to begin "that process of healing which is so desperately needed in America."

The Association of World War II Pilots and Aviation Specialists was a Domestic Nonprofit business incorporated in California on February 4, 1946 -- it no longer functions. As best I can determine, the organization attempted to lobby for employment for its membership, primarily in the air mail delivery arena. This related newspaper clipping is from the Saturday, May 25, 1946 edition of Lockport, New York's Union-Sun and Journal.

The American-Hawaiian Steamship Company was founded in 1899 to carry Sugar from Hawaii and other goods back from the USA. Until the Panama Canal was opened in 1914 they used to sail around South America except for a period when they used a Mexican Rail Line to reach the US east Coast. This Poster Stamp is from the time of the Canal Route. Exact Date unknown. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American-Hawaiian_Steamship_CompanyLondonbus1

The Poster stamp below dates from around 1934 when Northwest Airways, founded in 1926, changed it's name to Northwest Airlines. The stamp shows the Company logo, unchanged from the original except for airlines [for airways]. In 2008, they merged with Delta to become the world's largest airline. The airline started out carrying mostly mail for the U.S.Post Office. Edited to say that the Original Logo had a large part yellow colouring to it so my statement above that it was unchanged was slightly incorrect !

The United Hatters Cap and Millinery Workers International Union (UHCMW) was formed in 1934 by the amalgamation of United Hatters of North America (UHNA) and the Cloth Hat, Cap and Millinery Workers International Union (CHCMW). The United Hatters of North America (UHNA) was established in New York in 1896 as the resultof the merger of two Knights of Labor-affiliated unions in the men's hat industry, the the Hat Makers and the Hat Finishers. The Cloth Hat, Cap and Millinery Workers International Union (CHCMW) was established in New York in 1901, as the United Cloth Hat and Cap Makers of North America (superceding the the Cloth Hat and Cap Operators Union), and took its final name (adding Millinery Workers) in 1918. In 1983 the UHCMW joined the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union, which in turn merged in 1995 with the International Ladies Garment Workers Union to form UNITE (Union of Needle trades, Industrial and Textile Employees).

Admin queried : "Rod are you a member of PSS ?"
No Admin, not much of a club person, possibly because collecting Worldwide stamps, in fact, anything perforated or not, would have me joining squillions of clubs. Best to use a collecting forum, and contact the webmasters of each society when appropriate, to draw attention to finds, and for them to use the data if needed.

Marines : Poster Stamps. ... Zuzu's cover suggests quite clearly that these are World War II era recruiting stamps. And if I might add, you have exceptionally good taste in Cinderellas!!!

Steve winked : "And if I might add, you have exceptionally good taste in Cinderellas!!!"
Gee, thanks Steve, alas, taste was merely a by-product of good luck, I bought a box of Cinderellas from the US, these were amongst them.
If I recall correctly, I bought them originally for the luggage labels.

Good luck, perhaps, but you had the foresight to recognize the gems that had been given you for safekeeping.

Rod's post of the 50th anniversary of North Dakota becoming a state prompted me to find this one. Washington State also celebrated 50 years of statehood in 1939. There was an entire issue of poster stamps, of which, I only have one. This shows the still being built Tacoma Narrows bridge which was completed in 1940 and collapsed 4 months later. I'm sure all of us know the story, but I posted a link just in case. Galloping Gertie

If a picture is worth a thousand words, what is a video valued at?
Some dramatic footage of the 1940 Tacoma Narrows Bridge:

Air Express is a division of the REA, the Railway Express Agency, founded in 1917 to transport parcels using the extensive US rail network. Air Express division began in 1927. The company ceased to exist in 1975. I have not been able, thus far, to decipher the numbers at left, but it may be that the label dates from 1940 Londonbus1

BC Alert. Making Album Pages. Brian,if you email me the Hradcany Page, (In Publisher) shall I be able to open it? Would there be a problem there? If not, care to give these a go? I use A4 archival paper white Need a common border, anything you think suitable Then Squares/oblongs to suit the stamps, not crammed in, spacious like Steiner's pages. No text required I'll print a leading page, or, whatever you suggest. I have "Presidents of the United States" 37mm x 60mm El Camino Real 40mm x 54mm California Centennial 35mm x 49mm Those sizes give a 1mm border around the perfs. Thanks for looking at it.

Right. A chance for us, to brush up on our English Language. Sewer : (Pronounced : Sower) One whom darns with needle and thread (usually females or sailors) Sewer : Pronounced Sewer : Medieval Servant (Eng;) who was in charge of serving meals. Sewer : Pronounced Sewer : A very, very smelly place. Most bottoms point in their direction. So now we can carry on with the thread. National Sew and Save week : US : Cinderellas that promote sewers. (Now see the point ) San Jose News February 21st 1942

I see Cinderellas for Dick Nixon and FDR so I thought I would add these issued during the 1940 presidential race for Wendell Willkie, the republican nominee. In my opinion he was a good man and probably, if elected, would not have done things much differently than FDR. For those interested in that time period, a superb book to read is " The Borrowed Years 1938-1941, American on the way to war" by Richard M. Ketchum. If you are interested in Willkie, here is a link

Here is another Cinderella that is interesting to me. When I first saw it I assumed it was a Newfoundland Cinderella, but after reading this I am not sure. I found this short blurb about it on the collectors club of chicago website. Perhaps I should move it to Canadian Cinderellas?
