In Celle, (British Occupation Zone of Germany) in 1947 apparently there was a Cinderella--or rather more precisely--a Philatelic Exhibition label for CEPHILA, at a time when times were very tough for Germany as well as the rest of Europe. I am amazed that collectors still found the money to spend on stamps and stamp shows. Perhaps not amazed, as I know how collectors can be quite driven in their quest for philatelic items to add to their collections! This postcard I picked up at another German philatelic show, in Sindelfingen near Stuttgart, in October of 2018. I paid either one or two Euros as I browsed a LOT of one- and two-Euro cover boxes in the two days I was at the big annual event!

I learned something new on my recent trip to Europe. I met a fellow British Stamp Exhibition collector who gave me details about the 'Ideal' label shown below. Let me explain. The 'Ideal' stamp was printed as a souvenir for visitors to the 1912 International Stamp Exhibition in London. They were printed and perforated at the show. In 1913 at the International Philatelic Exhibition in Paris they were again issued but in a larger size. Until now I had assumed that would mean an easily recognizable larger size and I had never found any. Now I know why. The actual size is only 1mm larger than the 1912 issue !!!! Hard to spot with the naked eye during searches. So the item below is from the Paris Event and 4 colours are known: Green (+ 1 shade), Lilac, Red and Black. The 'London' sheets were of 240 with Jubilee lines all round. The Paris printing were in sheets of 108 with no Jubilee lines. The Printex Company of Kingsway, London undertook the work at both Exhibitions and their's is a fascinating story ! (Google it). You see, we can always learn something new on Holidays !! (Off to check my Ideal stamps) I think I may have a sheet of the Paris printing if this is the case .... Will try and find it later and get a photo (too large to put on the scanner) ....

A set of 10 ungummed cinderella souvenir sheets was produced by the Österreichische Staatsdruckerei (Austrian State Printing House) for WIPA 1981 featuring Mercury heads with and without beards. The stamps were designed in 1854 and were intended for use in Austria and Lombardy-Venezia. It is not known who created the Mercury head samples, but art experts assume they were drawn by the painter Leander Russ and engraved by copperplate engraver C. Kotterba. The original examples were printed on thin and brittle light blue-gray paper in a brown ink. Of the few prints made, it is believed that only 3 or 4 complete sets still exist.
It is surmised that the Mercury head stamps without beards would be used in one of the states and the Mercury head stamps with beards would be used in the other. The final designs would also have changes to the monetary denominations, as the Kreutzer was used in Austria and the Centesimi was used in Lombardy-Venezia. Additionally, the size of each stamp increased slightly as the denomination for each stamp increased.
The Mercury head stamps were the first attempts by the Government Printing Office to produce postage stamps using intaglio copperplate printing methods. They were originally proposed to replace the 1850 Coat of Arms stamp issues, which were hastily designed and only conceived as a makeshift issue to be replaced soon thereafter with a new issue.
The 1850 Coat of Arms stamps were also counterfeited. A forged design from Verona is actually considered to be more attractively designed and better printed than the originals produced by the Government Printing Office. The decision to produce the new Mercury head stamps by copperplate printing methods may have stemmed from a review of the production quality of the Verona forgeries, which were engraved and printed using this method.
Ultimately, though, the Mercury head designs were rejected by the Austrian Ministry of Trade in 1855. It opted, instead, for a design featuring Emperor Franz Josef. These stamps were put into use in 1858. The 1850 Coat of Arms issues, despite their problems, remained in use until that time.
- A synopsis of the article written by Dr. Anton Jerger for the 1981 WIPA Catalog

Here is another item issued for 'WIPA 1933' in Vienna, Austria. The same designer as those shown by tomiseksj in the opening post of this topic. WIPA in 1933 certainly had a lot going for it by way of souvenirs and ephemera. The labels below are of St.Stephen's Cathedral (Stephansdom) and were produced in 10 different colours and 3 different languages, German, English and French. The 3 types were printed within the same sheet (12x?). On the first image you can see the English & French versions Se-Tenant on the Red-Brown block. They were printed by the Austrian Government Printing Works.

Not sure what these might be as I found nothing about the event anywhere. They are undated too but quite eye-catching as pre-event advertising. Fully gummed too. I wonder how many turned up in such a small country ? Possibly a members-only meeting given the number space.

On June 1974, Barcelona's Stamp Club organized their traditional stamp exhibition on Barcelona's trade Fair. Four sheets were issued paying homage to the recently deceased Catalan celo player and composer, Pau Casals, author, among other things of he UN's himn. Two of the sheets are written in Catalan and two in Spanish.

There are some quite attractive modern souvenirs from German Philatelic shows. I just opened up some in an envelope and will scan a few. Here's one from 'Zweibrucken 1998' commemorating Writer and Statesman Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

In Gràcia, a former town, now a Barcelona district. Between 1950 and 1996 there was held an August Stamp exhibition. On some years, they issued cinderellas of irregular quality. In 1964 there was issued this sheet in 3 colours: blue, green and purple.
It shows "El campanar de Gràcia" (Gràcia's belfry) a "civil" (not religious) one. It was built in 1864 and for people from Gràcia (like myself) it symbolizes our independent ideology, free from religious believes and with faith just in ourselves and in what men can achieve together. I'm sure that Londonbus, remembers that we were with some friends under this very same tower less than two years ago. He was staying close to the square (plaça de la Vila de Gràcia) where this belfry stands.

Here's another Cinderella sheet from one of those Philatelic & Numismatic exhibitions held in Gracia, Barcelona. This one from 1960. (See previous post by cursus). The sheet was previously posted in the Red Cross topic (If I'm not mistaken).

Coming back home from a little promenade (in Gràcia) I see Michael's post and he's correct. There are, at least two more colours of the 1957 Gràcia cinderellas:
I must apologise for the poor quality of these cinderellas.

Cinderellas of the 1954 Gràcia exhibition. The subject was "Air mail" and the cinderellas show some Gràcia's landmarks. I must state that althought all items shown here are written in Spanish, a language compulsory during Franco's dictatorship (1939/75) the normal one of Gràcia's people, was, and is, Catalan.

Actually, I don't remember from where I got that. Just 20 or 25 years ago, nobody cared that much for cinderellas in Catalonia. I knew some old people involved in the Gràcia stamp exhibitions organisation. They had drawers full of stuff like that. You just asked them: "may I have a seet?" and they said "Of course!". They all, have gone!
Anyway, the quality is quite poor.
Cinderellas from the 1955. Subject: colonies. Pehaps, politicaly uncorrect in 2020

I think that Granollers cinderellas of late 50's early 60's are not gummed on both sides, but have a "glossy coating" on the front side. Anyway, they're far from the best. But, so, were those times in Catalonia. Just emerging from the long nighmare of the war/post war years (1936 up to 1953!) and still far away from the 65/70 development ones.
