Dr. Jose P. Rizal, a Philippines national hero, advocated for reforms in the Philippines under Spanish colonial rule. A physician and writer, Rizal inspired the Philippine nationalist movement, although he never advocated for independence from Spain. In 1896, the Philippine Revolution against Spain began. Rizal was arrested by the Spanish while on his way to treat yellow fever victims in Cuba and was subsequently tried for sedition and executed by firing squad in Manila on December 30th at the age of 35. The Rizal Centennial International Philatelic Exhibition, commemorating the centennial of Rizal's birth, was held in Manila from June 10 through 26, 1961. Below is one of four souvenir sheets issued to mark the event. One of the stamps was absent from each of the three remaining sheets. I've been unable to determined who commissioned the four souvenir sheets and how they were distributed to exhibition attendees. This was another purchase from Stamps for the Wounded.

The sheet below I just purchased from the owner of the website, 'Alphabetilately', a great Stamp and Cinderella resource. I have the Imperf sheet but could never get my hands on the perfed version. Now they are together at last !! But there are more to collect !! The Touring Stamp Exhibition was a long-running event in Israel when the country was in it's youth. And the exhibition targeted the Youth of the new Nation between 1950 and 1955 when it promised to visit every town and Settlement. No doubt it did by the plethora of covers and other sheets I have seen in recent years. they would make for a nice collection....and a nice story. More to come on this I hope. But in the meantime, a nice (propaganda) Sheet with perforations !

'Phila' Philatelic Exhibition, April 1945. The first Stamp Exhibition to be held in Palestine under the British Mandate. The Poster/Advertising stamp was designed initially as a poster by Meyerovicz and can also be found on the address side of specially-produced Exhibition Postcard with a 7 Millieme pre-printed stamp. Printed by the Atid Printing Press of Tel Aviv, the Poster (stamp) shows the Mandate stamp of the Citadel in Jerusalem being viewed through a magnifying glass on a black background. Inscribed in English and Hebrew.

Cubex 1957. Note the similarities between the sheet design and the front cover of a 1954 edition of The Saturday Evening Post. I wonder where the pipe went ? Londonbus1.......

Here's a few from Philatelic Exhibitions held here in Israel. There are many more labels and sheets to be found I am certain. 'Taba' 1952 held in Haifa, April 13th-17th. 'Tabit' 1970 Tel Aviv 18th-29th October Be'er Sheva 1990 held during the Succot holiday 5th--12th October Jerusalem 1973, 25th March-2nd April. Perforated. 'Tabira', Jerusalem 1968. Part of a set. Maybe a Souvenir Sheet ? World Stamp Exhibition and 50th Israel Jubilee, 1998. Held at the National Exhibition Centre in Tel Aviv, May 13th-21st. This was the best Expo I have attended in Israel. Most events since have been smaller with less dealer participation. Cost is everything (I guess). The label below is a Self-Adhesive type produced in strips of 5 and show a typical Israeli worker known affectionately as 'Srulik'. 'Israphil' 1985, Tel Aviv. More of the same design (see above) from Jerusalem 1968. Jerusalem 1973, as above but Imperforate.

Another one from Israel, this time with a difference ! The difference is the differences !! The sheet was free and small bundles were left in a number of locations around the Exhibition Centre. There were a number of subtle differences to a number of the sheets, some not easily recognizable when you did not expect it. I only show one here but will show all those I have (there may be more ) next time. It was a great idea by the organizing committee and now they sell on eBay for a few dollars and have become popular with collectors here as they chase completion. The thing is, no one knows what completion is ! Israel '98.
