Not everything Brian, Oman shares a common political system with Australia, (Bicameral) also, did you know Oman has an enclave, within an exclave? (ooh.... makes your head hurt)

The perforated issues and imperforate CTO-cancelled souvenir sheet for the 1974 UPU Centenary. I always considered these stamps to be cinderellas rather than actual stamp issues.

Am I correct in thinking that stamps labelled STATE of OMAN are unofficial issues whereas OMANI postage stamps are inscribed SULTANATE of OMAN.?

When Columbus was setting out West from Spain in search of the riches of Cathay , the Omani trading empire already reached across the Indian Ocean and Africa as far as Zanzibar . They were formidable seafarers and traded with China . By its peak in the early 19th their influence was rivalling the Portuguese and British navies with trading posts all round the Indian Ocean from Pakistan , Somalia Mombasa Punto Delgado to Mozambique. The main trading currency was the Austrian Maria Theresa thaler ( dollar) which is still minted with the original 1780 date !

The imperforate sheet for the 1976 U.S. Bicentennial overprinted for the 1979 10th Anniversary of the Moon Landing. [image] de61 I have exactly the same sheet except without the Moon Landing overprint. And it also has a Swedish counterpart?! Do you know anything about this? Check out my intro post, I can include them here if you like, they are just large images.

It is interesting that these are huge stamps and other countries tried to keep them small. In the grand scheme. the cost to print them has to be far less than their revenue potential as a collectible stamp.

I have several varieties of the stamps in my American Revolution Bicentennial topical collection. I am trying to assemble all the varieties - perf, imperf, & overprints (perf & imperf) for this collection. Most of these are considered cinderellas created by Clive Feigenbaum, a stamp entrepreneur of dubious distinction. The Isö stamps can be seen in the Cinderellas, Local Posts, & Ephemera category. There are a number of posts among myself, guyana1230, vikingeck, and many others discussing the status of these stamps and whether they should be included in collections.
