A page of "famous" reproductions, the name escapes me, perhaps someone can recall them? if so, would appreciate. Hinged on Printed H.E. Harris Page. Despite the quoted prices, I would assume all are dodgy.

Those are the Springfield reprints/forgeries; these were printed from the 1930s on, by the Tatham Stamp Co. of Springfield Mass. for use in their books about CSA postal history. Although there are a few genuine examples in that lot also! Neat lookin' stuff!

You may want to further research those if your interested I'l post a small list of people of interest that may be the origins of some of those.
Samuel C. Upham counterfeits / forgeries
May be a S. Allan Taylor in that bunch also
De La Rue unissued "Altered Plate" by George Linn
James is the one who could tell you almost anything about these!

Both of these links are bad, the "..." breaks them. Do you have the correct links? I'd be interested especially in the first article, as I doubt I have anything genuine among my piles of stuff! Ryan

Your most Welcome. James is the one that can enlighten you on the specifics of what you have. He's a whiz at that stuff and has a marvelous CSA, CSA fakes & Forgeries collection. Hopefully he'll pop in here.

OH, JEFF! You make me blush! Ah doo declair! (where's my parasol) Looks like you've got it covered on the website front, ILS. Dr. Kimbrough's sight is amazing, and I've emailed him a couple of times with questions. He's very gracious with his time. I lost all of my bookmarked sites a while ago when Firefox abandoned my aging Mac computer. I think I'd agree with Jeff that your stamps look like Springfields. The quality of the paper (newsprint) and numbers on the backs are dead giveaways. Bear in mind these were printed over the space of about 10 years or so and the quality really varies. Some can look pretty good. I'm intrigued by your 5¢ Jeff Davis on the left with the 55 pound (can't find the key command) under it. Looks like a S. Allan Taylor forgery. He used wood cuts instead of litho, and are pretty crude. I've got a few and think they're terrific. Nice bunch though. Thanks for inviting me over!
ps. Despite what Jeff says, I'm no expert. There's a lot to learn about these things. I'm aching to get a hold of some of August Dietz's books, he's the expert.

Here's a couple of good CSA sites I've managed to copy from one of my postings on SCF. www.csafakes.comAnd Trish Kaufmann is a REAL expert. Check out here site. www.csadealer.com/And that forgeries article Jeff posted is terrific. Definitely read that.

LOL You crack me up James! Seriously though flattery aside, James has an extensive collection of these and really does know his stuff. I actually stole his links for this thread from over at SCF so I can take no credit except for what I learned from his link and wisdom. OK I'm off to bed. Hey Rod! I really would like to see a closeup scan of the 5¢ Jeff Davis (third row centre, just above the 1863 date) when you get a minute. I have suspicions it may be a New York forgery, as opposed to a Springfield. thanks.

No, Jeff was right, a Springfield all the way, right down to the facsimile number. A New York forgery is recognized by a smaller cross stroke on the F, as well as a small dot in the upper left corner just to the right of the six pointed star. When the image was small on my screen, the cross stroke looked shortened. False alarm. Thanks for taking the time to scan though.

Not sure I would call the Tatham's forgeries. Reproductions would better suit.I like them though. They had a nice idea with the booklets. I have tried to find one or two more for my Flag collection but they are just too expensive. This one came at a very reasonable price ! Semantics my dear Watson...LB1 is correct, the definitions are vastly different so reproductions IS the better choice. -Jeff

When I was digging around my bulk, pretty much unsorted, stuff the other day, looking for items to add to my give-away, I had a pleasant surprise and found a sleeve containing full pages of CSA stamps! They are counterfeit/reproductions of course. I wish they were real... but I'll take some repops that are probably a few few decades old, at least. They are sheets, as I said, but each and every stamp in each sheet has the word "facsimile" printed on the back, no gum of course.
There is one sheet for each CSA design.
I need to investigate now and find out the details on what they are exactly and from whom. They look like the previously posted pics of "blocks of four", but a whole sheet. So maybe they are made by the same people.
What are your opinions... Should I cut them up into singles and fours, or leave them as sheets? I like the idea of cutting them, they go further that way. If I leave them as sheets, I only have one set, and it is harder to display. If I have several sets, I can display easier, share some, trade some, etc...
Thoughts?

Opinion: Generally speaking, one should leave the stamps as is, once tampered, for whatever reason, the damage is done. You are the caretaker of the item, so it is up to you, It is your decision.

I'd have to agree with Rod here. I'd leave full sheets in their natural state. They're happier that way. But ultimately the decision is yours.

You entry is interesting to me, Rod, right down to the captains name being so similar to yours truly. In another ironic twist, I have an older daughter (from a previous relationship - yes, the plot thickens!) who lives in...wait for it... Shenandoah VA.!
I s**t you not!
