Great Britain, July 2nd, 1890, 50th Anniversary of the Penny Post, First Day of Issue posted at the South Kensington Museum with the enclosed insert. A celebration of Uniform Penny Postage since 1840. Addressed to the old philatelic Firm, Whitfield King and Co. in Ipswich. Printed by ,Thomas De La Rue & Company, London. A nice example of this First Day of Issue Postal Stationery. Lovely writing and cachet... Rob

a choice item - v.g. find. For those, who like me, may not have known exactly what the word 'Uniform' meant in this context, I've cheated and added a sentence from Wiki which explains - hope REL1948 you don't object to my addition to your post. ................ "The Uniform Penny Post was a component of the comprehensive reform of the Royal Mail, the UK's official postal service, that took place in the 19th century. The reforms were a government initiative to eradicate the abuse and corruption of the existing service." .......... source - Wikipedia. wonder what those guys would have thought if they knew what the current rate was! This is of course the letter rate. Just for a little added interest, here is one of the G.B. issues paying homage to Sir Rowland Hill - and again we see the word 'Uniform'.
